"Being popular has its uses, you know."

Galin was born in a region of the Southern Icefield known as Sevenbranch to a prominent and powerful family. His parents kept him and his siblings in fierce competition with each other - they were beautiful and wealthy and politically well-connected, so they were expected to go far in life and outdo each other. Theirs was a large family, however, and Galin was nearly the youngest, so though he was talented, his older siblings had already done everything he accomplished, and he was constantly being compared with them.

When he got a letter accepting him to the Sevenbranch School of Magic, Galin was determined to finally outshine his siblings, none of whom had magic powerful enough to warrant them admission to the prestigious school. His bubbly joy at finally having his moment of glory popped, however, when he saw who his roommate was - an odd-looking coatl. Nobody (in Galin's social circle, anyway) consorted with the breed, for they talked funny and hummed and had trouble hearing and didn't even speak proper draconic half the time. He did his best to ignore his roommate and enjoy his school experience, even though he felt a bit guilty, knowing that Ez, being the only coatl in the school, had no friends.

He hadn't realized quite how miserable of a time his roommate was having until he returned to their room one afternoon to find Ez attempting to bandage his own eye, severely injured from a rock thrown by a fellow classmate. Neither of them had studied healing magic yet, but Galin did the best he could to help him - both with his eye and to prevent future incidents like that from occurring. He bought Ez goggles to wear to cover his ruined eye and publicly proclaimed his friendship with the coatl. Galin knew it was a gamble - he could lose everything he had worked for over this friendship - but even though he had previously distanced himself from his roommate as much as he could, he had also realized that Ez was an extremely talented mage and a gifted academic and would make a powerful ally. Thankfully for Galin, his risk paid off, and he was able to balance both a friendship with the coatl and his status at school.

His friendship with Ez truly became a boon when the coatl, who as the first in his class was given the opportunity to interview with the Wizard of Sevenbranch himself, asked permission for Galin to also attend the interview. Their mutual elation over the interview soured once they met the Wizard himself, however. The tundra Pentius feared coatls due to a past experience involving fire and was unaware that one had been training in the school, so he gave Ez a choice - either have his magic bound permanently, or else leave Sevenbranch. Ez chose to leave, and he asked Galin to come with him. Galin, however, couldn't bring himself to do so. Pentius had offered him a high position in the government, a higher post than any of his siblings had achieved, and he couldn't stand the thought of being disowned by his family or losing his friends and status by refusing and leaving to go out into the unknown with a coatl. The friends reluctantly parted company, Ez flying off toward the Starfall Isles while Galin assumed his new position in the court of Pentius.

Galin regretted his choice many times, especially as Pentius became more erratic once an old friend of the Wizard came to the castle with two skydancers named Midnight and Sun in tow. He could tell that Pentius feared the two, particular Sun with his fire magic, but even though all good sense and his political standing told him otherwise, he still voiced concern when Pentius locked the two in a remote tower. He paid for this slip of tongue when Pentius removed him from his position and charged him with guarding the tower.

His prisoners were later joined by an imperial princess named Liliya, an ambassador from a formerly allied clan in the Starfall Isles, and Galin feared even more for the state of his liege and his land. Still, he remained loyal, fearing further demotion - or worse, punishment - for disobedience. He figured that Liliya's imprisonment would not pass without a reaction from her homeland, so he was unsurprised to see some dragons come to her rescue and challenge him in front of the tower. He was surprised, however, that one of the challengers was his old friend Ez. The two reluctantly battled at the foot of the tower as snow swirled around them, neither willing to back down though neither wanted to injure the other. Galin finally surrendered when his prisoners emerged from the tower. They had been able to break free once his attentions had been distracted and the magic he had been using to hold them in was repurposed to combat Ez.

When Liliya insisted on journeying to the capital to confront the Wizard for his actions, Galin shocked himself by agreeing with her. His conscience could no longer allow him to keep silent, and seeing Ez (still wearing the goggles he had given him long ago) had reminded him of the cost of ignoring what was right for the sake of the status quo. He almost regretted his decision when their negotiations failed and the palace was set aflame by Sun's wild magic. Galin and Ez worked together as they once had in their classes, shielding others as best they could. When the smoke and flames finally settled, it was clear that change was needed in Sevenbranch. Pentius willingly absconded his position to take a leave of absence to study once again under his old teacher, and he offered the position of regent to Galin. Though Galin was sorely tempted, he refused, electing instead to finally break the shackles that bound him to his family and their expectations and travel with Ez to the land of dreams.

On reaching the island of Prufrock, he was astonished to learn that his old friend had achieved popularity there all on his own and was the head of a prosperous clan. Galin has appointed himself second-in-command and Ez's personal assistant (though he was annoyed at his diminished power when Ez stepped down to become one of a triumvirate), and he has dedicated himself to ensuring that the island has plenty of parties and other social events. He has yet to find a soulmate, but he enjoys flirting with dragons of both genders and playing matchmaker among the island's single dragons. Being a noble used to luxury has led him to make many expensive (though necessarily, in his mind) updates to the clan's amenities, and the conditions of the visitors' lairs have greatly improved under his management. He makes meddling attempts to improve the appearance of the clan's dragons as well and shares a love of makeovers with the stylist Skah. Though still a social-climber at heart, he is doing his best to avoid repeating his past mistakes and has resolved to always listen to his conscience from here on out.
