Kyanite, or "Kya" as she prefers, was a patient and attentive apprentice under the former cook of Clan Snastle, Tanzanite. When Tanza gave up her wooden spoon to become the Arcane Flight representative for the clan, Kya was promoted to head chef, and things changed around the kitchen.

There was a certain charm to the homely mess of Tanza's cooking, with a surplus of baked goods on every counter and a hearty meal in every belly. But Kya's style was different. She saw the inefficiency of how food was portioned out, how the mess of schedules and lifestyles in the clan meant that some dragons struggled to find a cooked meal to match their dietary requirements, or found it easier to snack on things that weren't as nutritious as she would hope. Health and nutrition were her main interests, and her cooking reflected that, when given the chance to set her own menu.

She had tasted food from all over the continent when she traveled with her merchant parents as a hatchling, and while she loved Tanza's roasts, pies and cakes, she knew there was food out there that didn't come from a baking tray.

Kya restructured the kitchen in the early days of Tanza's departure, when the older baker was too busy to notice and fret about it. Many of the ovens were taken out to make more bench space, and small cookers were installed all along one wall, which could be activated at will by inserting one of the charged Fire runestones kept in a cloth bag nearby. Kya organized a cold room to be built - a closed room kept at chilling temperatures by Ice magic - where food could be stored as she had seen on the Howling Plateau, where Tundras dug holes in the snow.

Food was still prepared freshly and en masse to be available at mealtimes, but in smaller quantities so there was less wastage and less stress. Instead, Kya created meals in huge batches and sealed them in portion-sized clay pots, sealed off with beeswax around the edges. The pots were labelled with the contents and stored in the cold room. Hungry dragons needed only to choose a pot that appealed to them, pull off the wax from the outside and drop it back in the melting pot, and put the pot on one of the cookers, and they'd have a hot meal any time of the day or night. No more snacking on cupcakes in the early hours of the morning, although Tanza never could quite stay out of the kitchen, having converted an old pantry into her new office, and a small stash of baked goods could always be found.

Kya's kitchen changes led to the whole clan being a lot healthier and took the stress away from not only the kitchen, but the dragons who struggled to catch mealtimes. She has since expanded to selling her little pot meals at the markets when Snastle stops, under a banner titled “Kya’s Kitchen”, where she also trades recipes with other clans. Tanza's surprise quickly gave way to pride when she returned to find the bellies of the clan under such good care.
