His paranoia intensified after his father died of a broken heart and his mother died of the aftereffects of a duel.
He now keeps all his precious things in a airship vault he built himself.
Even his beloved.

If he shows a conscience, it's probably because of his imprisoned love. Though he is stubbornly opposed to letting her out, he is receptive to almost anything she says.
His relationship with his brother is good, although there are quite a few disagreements between them. At the very least, he cares for his brother after his beloved.
