Born as an awkward, clumsy dragon Simon seemed to always stumble around as a hatchling. It was almost as if he had no control over his feet. Being a klutz, he always seemed to be a nuisance to others around him. Despite his mother's loving and caring nature, it was not unusual for her to be fed up with him from time to time.

Feeling alone and shunned, Simon lost himself in writing a diary. Through writing he channeled his angers and frustration. From then on, his love for writing grew and he would visit the clan library to read stories and lose himself in the lives of the characters. However, he was banned from the library a few months later after he tripped and pushed an entire shelf of books down by accident.

After the library fiasco, Simon offered to visit some relatives on the other side of the Windswept Plateu. His clan was more than happy to be without his presence for the next few months and sent him off with a small bag of treasure and enough seafood to last him for the week long trip. However, a large gust of wind sent him barreling off the wrong direction on his trip and landed him instead in the Ashfall Waste.

Not knowing where to go or how to get back home, Simon wandered around, trying to find his way back. Before he knew it, all his food was eaten up. Tired, hungry, and scared, Simon curled up in a small cave to rest. It was the next day when Lancelor found the coatl, shivering in his cave. Carrying Simon on his back, Lancelor brought him to his own clan. Lydia then helped nurture the Simon back to full health. Realizing how well treated he was in this clan, Simon chose to stay in the Ashfall waste. He was later hired to work as a journalist for Brylee's newspaper.

It was here where Simon finally found a place he fit in.

Simon loved the heat and passion of Fire with all his heart, he knew. But whenever he felt the cool breeze whirl through the Molten Scar on chill summer evenings he felt his heart ache with nostalgia; it had been years since he'd seen the fresh greens and fluffy clouds of the Plateau! True, the warmth and hospitality of his clan was all he could've ever hoped for, but he wanted to see! To go back to the lands where his vibrant green eyes were commonplace and relive his childhood, if just for a week! He didn't want to be so royally thrown off course like last time so Simon had confidence that a shorter visit to the nearest edge of the Plateau might be a tad more successful. Visiting his relatives may have to wait until next time, when his wings grew stronger and more robust with practise.

His clanmates helped him pack, each with the most wonderous grin on their faces. "Bring me something back!", "Don't get lost!" and "Say hi for me!" were repeated more times than Simon could count, and he set off with the rising run behind him, energised and ready for his journey.

The sun was low in the sky when Simon finally found his way to the edge of the bamboo forest, exhausted and really rather irritated. It was then he finally saw the flying banners of the Windsinger! Clan Eurus stretched out in the valley - fresh green as far as his eyes could see! When a spiral spotted him in the shrubbery, an joyful cheer went up, and Simon was quickly welcomed. A Frostbite Hummingbird was enthusiastically thrusted into his claws, where it chirped and glittered with as much joy as the rest of the clan. Simon's nervousness melted away almost instantly. As night drew closer and closer on the Windswept Plateau, Simon was left in the care of Yuki - the clan's resident healer and bookworm. The sight of her endless array of bookshelves jammed full with various leather tomes and dog-eared paperbacks made Simon's eyes widen in wonder! How he would've loved to spent the night reading every last one! But, his new cosy bed called to him...

Yuki quietly ushers him away into the back room of her den, already mumbling about the various concoctions and elixers she'd have to put together the next day. Soon, the mumbles turn into a mellow song, sung in a language Simon's not sure he's read about. Distracted, Yuki points to his bed with a single claw, goes to turn and, as an afterthought, turns back to Simon. She smiles, finally, and gestures to the various pelts and coverings in the room. "Make yourself at home!" She laughs, before returning to her song. It's this lament that lulls Simon into a steady and dreamless sleep.

When Simon awakes, Yuki is nowhere to be seen. He rises from his bed, quite embarrassed to see the jumbled mess he'd made of the blankets in his sleep. Emerging from the den was like walking into a whole new world - the foliage around him stretched high into the cloudless sky, balloons and kites filling the air to make a rainbow of colour and sounds, painting the air red, blue, green, shades of purple. Songen, whom Simon quickly recognises as Clan Eurus' leader, quickly grabs his attention. She smiles softly, and shifts her head towards Simon, eyes expectant. It was a soundless invitation to the scavenging party, and Simon was overjoyed! Scavenging was where all the treasures were found - the scorched books and dropped tomes! He set off on Yuki's tail, eager to find out what he'd enearth in the Eurus Bamboo.

After a thorough day of collecting and scrambling through the clusters of bamboo, Simon let his spoils fall from his arms - a battered book, a field journal, and a single Wind tome in perfect condition. Its straps were rusted to all hell, but the gold-trim pages were pristine! He finds himself brimming with pride as he hands his finds over to Yuki. She grins the biggest smile he's ever seen, her red eyes scanning the pages with as much awe as Simon had. Ecstatic, Yuki invites Simon to spend as much time as he wants in her personal library, thrilled to have made a friend who shared her interest in books.

Simon sleeps like a hatchling that night (clutching the battered book of fables), soothed by the thrums of the bamboo and Yuki's soft croon, each shoot humming in the endless wind that scatters the leaves and upsets Yuki's favourite plant pot on a bi-weekly basis.

Simon's last day came all too soon; it had felt like only yesterday he'd wandered into Clan Eurus and he was disappointed to know that this day was his last with his new friends. He felt the sadness knaw away at his stomach, and he clutched his book of fables tight in his claws. Of course, he put on a brave face for Yuki and the others at breakfast! After eating, Songen hefted a huge box of ivory coloured flags onto the table - the Brightshine Jubilee! He couldn't help but laugh when the nocturne twins Chester and Chezra loop-de-looped around the table, their sunlight eyes full of joy. The day was spent adding banner after banner after banner, the clan buzzing with excitement for the Light festival.

"It's a big one!" Yuki had explained to him, pinning a flag above Simon's head. "I've heard the Light Flight value knowledge above all else," she smiled, casting a knowing eye down to Simon, "so they have tonnes and tonnes of books! My collection is pathetic in comparision!" (Simon begged to differ - he was finding the fables highly entertaining!) When the day came to a close and all the banners danced in the evening breeeze, Simon found Yuki getting all teary-eyed, trying to hide her face behind her claws. Simon tried to smile to comfort her, and offered back the borrowed book, a chapter from the end. He never did get a chance to finish it, but ah well! He was sure Yuki would enjoy it!

Yuki smiled through her tears, and pressed the book to Simon's chest. "You take it! What good is a story with no ending?" Many hugs were given and there wasn't a dry eye in the clan. When Simon set off, his wings felt stronger than ever! A week in the wild winds had made him feel readier than anything! On the way home, he recited what Songen had said to him on his departure from the Reedcliff Ascent, smiling softly to himself:

"Thank you for everything! We're going to miss you so much - remember us whenever you feel the breeze. And remember - you'll always be a child of the Windsinger. Come back and visit whenever you'd like - we'll all be so happy to have you. Good luck with everything, and have safe travels! May the winds always be at your back, my friend!"
