Matcha
Tea-brewer
Shade-touched | Healed! | Content

Matcha had a happy life once. Lonely but not suffering, this skydancer grew up happily in the comfort of his parents' nest. He enjoyed this quiet life in the Starfall Isles. He grew and prospered with the family tradition of brewing the perfect tea from the finest leaves in the area. His beginning was a dream.
It didn't surprise him to realize that all dreams come to an end.

Beside the Starfall Isles rests the festering boil of the world, the Scarred Wasteland. On one clear, sunny day, Matcha, with his little herb bags, traveled too far to the east and reached the Wandering Contagion. He was but a hatchling, and like all small creatures, curiosity never fails to get the better of them. So he traveled, making sure to peek around every nook and cranny his eyes fell on. It didn't take long for him to find a cave he thought he could rest in for a while. It wasn't too bad for him to be out there for so long. He knew his brother did it, so why couldn't he?
But his brother never had to go here. Not this exact spot, in the one place with the being all the gods of Sornieth battled and came to fear deep within their hearts.
It didn't take long. There were no screams, no pain to feel. The Shade had taken this hatchling to the other side, but something wasn't right with the attack. The hatchling never lost its warmth. It continued to breathe no matter how much the Shade tried to crush it. Despite being out cold, Matcha refused to let his life escape from him. He was quickly thrown out since his life-force wasn't able to be taken easily like the other dragons that fell into the Shade's trap. What felt like a couple of minutes turned out to be a couple of days before Matcha woke up again.

His actual voice: Ichimatsu Matsuno

His singing voice: Hollow Shell by Dayseeker

And he screamed. He screamed and cried to the gods above from the agony. He didn't know what else to do but crawl back home if he could. Red and black liquid alike seeped down from the wounds that refused to close until he escaped the outside reaches of the Plaguebringer's domain. To his surprise, he could see some dragons in the distance. His smile faltered when the shapes of the large creatures truly came to view. He was found, but not by his parents. No, he was to be taken to an area much colder than the nest he wanted to curl up into. The eyes that fell upon him were nothing like his mother's or father's.
These were light green, and such a color was the last he took in before he lost his conscious once more.

Time passed. He found himself traveling from home to home, labs to forests, like anything and nothing became the definition of home to the young dragon. The pain in his damaged limbs subsided, but in its place came soft whispers of the Shade that tainted the core of his heart. "Kill this...eat that..." would make up his daily thoughts. Matcha forgot why he bothered to try holding them back at one point. In any case, he tried his best to not let his conditions define him. He returned to his tea brewing and began his own journey after permanent homes refused to take in the Shade bearer. He understood. He grew and grew, continuing his disfigured path of homelessness and failed deals as he tried to earn some treasure for himself. Nobody wanted to buy his products. Who knew if those had traces of Shade in them too? The hardwork and disappointment he experienced daily kept him from focusing on the foreign whispers though. Nothing turned out to be too bad. Matcha held onto his hopes and made sure to reach for a new dream to replace the one he had to leave behind.

His theme song: Hurting For a Very Hurtful Pain

And a new dream he found! Matcha wandered so far from his first home that he actually landed in the Ashfall Wastes with barely any treasure to scrape by. He was found by the clan's swordsman, Elurra. He didn't seem to have any luck with introductions since the seemingly weak corpse dragged him all the way to Ashes herself to be interrogated for passing clan borders. Something was on his side that day though. A couple of weeks before, Glitch took his dad and his sister over to meet his peers, and it turned out that Glitch's dad held some shade inside himself! Seeing these dragons didn't surprise this group of misfits anymore. To be honest, Ashes made it clear that- at least to her- Matcha would fit right in! A spark of happiness flashed across his eyes at this. He was finally going to have a home again!

Of course, the joy was somewhat short lived. He was able to settle in peacefully at first, but the mental damage from his past was already locked in place. He still had to fight the Shade slowly overtaking his mind. On some days, Matcha was completely unresponsive as he worked on his little tea business. Brew, brew... That's all the grown dragon knew. Brew... He never snapped at these dragons. No, he never showed his anger outright as they stared at him in horror through this. He was a modest soul. A broken, tortured, modest soul. He didn't know any better. Matcha knew he gave up on the thought of true love long ago.

For whatever reason, he finds this...one imperial visiting him often. An extremely shiny, aqua male dragon that he has to shield his eyes from sometimes. "Gumi," he calls himself. Matcha finds himself awkward and out of place when Gumi would find any reason in his words and jokes to laugh as loud as possible. Smile as wide as he could. He didn't know he was that funny. The reserved Skydancer would fall flustered on these days and work even faster to ignore Gumi's following words. Even so, it seemed like Gumi sat closer and closer to his desk during those little conversations. Was Gumi somebody he could call his first friend? He would never know.
