Alchemist & Dragon of Science

If it isn’t clear at first glance, or by the heavy embossed medallion and cuffs on her wrists, Orca is an accomplished alchemist. She’s no charlatan, but an honest-to-goodness brewer of potions, transformer of lead into gold, and generally curious scientist. She believes that there’s a cause for everything even if it hasn’t quite been explained yet. She may be a little eccentric, but Orca is fairly popular among the clan. There’s really only one person that she doesn’t get along with. She’s typically quite compassionate and always seems to be up for a good conversation, but she can’t get Coral to like her. Maybe it’s because Orca prefers to talk and act, while Coral is a quieter, solitary dragon. In a strange twist of fate, she found herself attracted to StingRay, a charming and attractive spiral who acts as an illusionist and entertainer. After a short period of awkward flirting, the two eventually professed their mutual attraction. They have their differences, but Orca and StingRay care deeply for each other. Even when she spends too much time working on a project and forgets to speak to him until it’s finished, or he gets a little too flirty with some of the other dragons in the clan, they never seem to hold it against each other. Orca may tease her mate about his tricks and pride, but even her sarcastic comments are simply a playful way of showing her affection. StingRay is more of a magician than a mage – preferring prestidigitation to summoning and spells. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Orca likes him. His magic tricks and illusions may seem supernatural at first glance, but they’re easy to unravel once Orca understands the basic theories behind them. He’s very talented at illusions. So much so, in fact, that Orca almost believed he was a real mage upon first meeting him. In some ways, finding out that he was not practicing real magic only reaffirmed her belief that everything can be explained by science. When she isn’t spending time with her mate, Orca can either be found in her workshop or with her friends. She’s rather close to several of the dragons in her clan. Orca, Yova, Adiela, Yedida, and Zella often gather at Orca’s home to talk and snack on baked goods. Not that she would ever admit it, but Orca does enjoy baking from time to time. It’s not much different from alchemy really. There are measurements and instructions, which produce a set outcome when followed; a tasty one at that.
