TheTaint

When TheTaint hatched, his father nearly fainted. This dark creature, covered in strange markings and impossible scars, could not possibly be his son. But Ottawa, his mother, merely gave a tiny nod. She had been expecting such a hatchling of her line.

Dark and Plague-like.

His father, taking Ottawa aside after the birth, told Ottawa he would not go near the boy. With only passing civility HubertGreen told Ottawa that she must be mistaken that this tainted hatchling was his, and he would never claim it to be his own. Soon after that, he abandoned the lair in search of the Earth Lord.

So Ottawa protected TheTaint as best she could from the vicious gossip and sharp tongues of the Lair, leaving him Unnamed until he was old enough to understand that he was different. Until he could chose his own name.

TheTaint indeed picked his own name, but he told no one except his beloved mother, who kept it a secret at his request. For many of the Lair members called him TheTaint since birth, and he was bitter at their coldness.

He knew he couldn't help his coloration, markings, and scars, nor his standoffish nature. So he ignored almost everyone and kept to himself. Lair Mother Loam loved him, his own mother loved him, and there were several dragons who tolerated him and tried to include him. It was enough for him.
