Note about use of the Haka in my lair since obviously I have to twist it to fit dragons as best I can: The Haka is more private overall in my lair. It is reserved for battles to intimidate unfriendly, shadow tainted beast clans or for ceremonies where no strangers are present. Same with knife dancing. Very seldom will an outsider see either of these nor are they talked about much when others are around. Lets face it, this is a friendly clan and if they greeted all strangers in the Maori way it would scare off everyone including potential clients. Also, I want this to be a new, introduced piece of culture. Also, the token placed on the ground could be most anything but leaves seem common, and thanks to impception who suggested it, it will always be bamboo leaves or shoots in Makani Haven as the Wind thing to do. :)

Note) DaiShan and Koa are more Maori in culture. I would like skills like fire knife dancing (Samoan) and tititorea be a Maknai Haven thing and the Haka a Dai Shan/Koa thing. Just how is that supposed to work?

His trip to Makani Haven had been eventful. There weren't many to his clan and so misunderstandings as to purpose happened occasionally. After a few times of getting chased off he learned to turn down the hospitality of those with shifty or concerned looks. Even if they didn't change their minds the stay wouldn't be comfortable. He suspected a couple of the worst weren't happy he'd escaped. Seriously, which path had DaiShan taken? If he'd run into these problems he would have warned of them.

DaiShan were friends from their Night Warrior clan days. DaiShan had left for his Search moons ago then written a cryptic note that he had found something Koa just had to see and a general location. Koa had already started his own Search by then so had a bit of a trip from his location in the Starfall Isles.

About the time he thought he should almost be there he noticed a look out taking off. Nodding to himself he knew what greeting to expect. He saw a spot to land in the lair and Dai Shan already standing there with 3 other dragons. Others were obviously coming out of the wood work to see the visitor and that included a group coming from the sea carrying weird contraptions. Yes this would be interesting.

He landed in a very alert stance, facing the group squarely. By then Dai Shan's group were all in identical alert crouches. Just how well trained had he gotten these dragons in the few moons he could have been here? There was even a female in the group as well. She certainly looked like she could be a Night Warrior even if she had some flashy whites to her. She looked like a very agile warrior indeed. The same couldn't be said of the rest of the group who were all much too light colored.

What followed was actually everything he could have hoped for. It was a stomping, chanting, slapping, wide-eyed group of dragons all moving in unison. There were some "solos" thrown in. Including the femaie. Yes, Dai Shan had definitely trained them well! During his solo, Dai Shan came up to him placing a bamboo shoot in front of Koa and continuing to dance, seemingly threatening Koa.

The rest of the lair was staring in fascination but the lack of shocked looks or faes fleeing in terror told him they were all used to it by now. Dai Shan's group definitely would have sent the unsuspecting running for the hills with no fight necessary. Impressive.

Koa strode toward Dai Shan locking gazes with him to pick up the bamboo shoot and strode backward to his remaining spot continuing his stare down of Dai Shan, his gaze never wavering. Their dance came to an end and he took up his own part in the Pōwhiri, putting as much heart into it as he could. After all, Dai Shan had a proper group and he had only himself. He knew which side was more intimidating. Normally, he wouldn't have performed the haka but he knew Dai Shan wanted to impress and was giving him a chance to show off and establish he was a worthy warrior.

When he finished his part in the Pōwhiri, someone broke into song and he and Dai Shan completed the Pōwhiri with the hongi, sharing breath and spirit.

From there every one scattered in a flurry of organized chaos as he and Dai Shan walked toward a large tree with chimes hung all over it. Yes, indeed his Search just might come to an end here.
