Biography
Lilac could count on his claws the number of times he ever felt nervous. Leaving his clan, Jewelvine, was not one of those moments because he wasn't leaving on his own. Laurel, his partner. love and best friend, was making the leave with him. That knowledge alone was enough to keep his own waterworks at bay. Laurel cried and hugged their fellow clansmates for the both of them. That being said. there was one moment, one monumental, limb-locking experience of nerves that he experienced thanks to Laurel, and the battle between what he wanted to say in his mind versus what his mouth actually spewed. (Let it be known that talking has never been one of Lilac's stronger points.) When he realized that Laurel was the one he wanted to spend his life with, he immediately tried to think of how he could express that feeling to her. Naturally, he told Laurel that he would be away in his usual space, to 'think about things', and went off to practice and mentally rewrite the many speeches he'd prepared. He spent the entire day vetoing speeches he had thought were perfect, working on new ones until he felt confident in it, only to find some mistake or another and the whole process would repeat. Lilac was focused, occasionally pacing about, most times sitting with crumpled parchment by his feet, so deep in thought that he wasn't even aware of the setting sun. So focused he didn't hear Laurel call his name or approach him. He didn't hear her footsteps or the second time she called his name, absolutely absorbed in the nth version of his speech, mumbling, crouching in front of a parchment. Laurel peeked over his shoulder, " 'my love for you won't ever burn out...?" |

Lilac shrieked, parchment scattering everywhere as he fumbled away. His legs seemingly gave out on him and his heart was very determined to leap out his throat. He scrambled around, eyes wide as he stared at Laurel and the hundreds of speeches he spent the day trying to perfect simply vanished from his mind, but it didn't deter his mouth from opening and saying, "Our hatchlings would look beautiful." Laurel eyes widened and there was such a heavy pause between them that Lilac wished the ground would split open and swallow him whole. But then Laurel smiled, wide and cheerful and she was laughing and Lilac found himself able to breathe again. Laughter was good, it always was and he loved listening to her laugh. She walked over to him, still laughing and tears welling at the corner of her eyes as she sat down beside him and leaned her weight against him. "Our hatchlings would definitely look beautiful," she said once the laughter settled down to giggles. She nuzzled her head against his and Lilac relaxed. He was relaxed enough to reach into his satchel and pull out a ring. "Hatchlings aside," he said, earning a chuckle from Laurel. "I love you. A lot." "With or without hatchlings?" Lilac rolled his eyes but he was smiling, "With or without." he repeated. "You do know I'm never letting this go." Lilac nodded, "I'm already prepared for all your teasing." Laurel grinned and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Good." |
