Aphelion flicked the citrine at the end of her wingloop. It was to be her pairing jewellery, her mate wearing a matching one. Now she was still wearing hers and the other was resting in the clan's hoard.
Her mother wandered in and shimmied next to her.
'Don't worry daughter' she said to Aphelion. 'There are plenty of cute boys for you to play with.'
Aphelion shook her head. Her mother- the idiot.
'It is always with cute boys with you isn't it' Aphelion snorted. 'What I am to say when Mancanilla and Larkspur come to me and ask ''Where did father go?'
Wanderlight spread her wings and fanned them a little bit, humming happily to herself. Aphelion never approved her mother flightiness, breeding with any male she thought cute with no stable pairing. And yet Wanderlight was still happy while Aphelion mourned. Where did she go wrong? She was so sure she can keep Gacrux for herself. But the moment the hatchlings were born, he came back to pursuing Ghost. Ghost! What this little mute had she didn't?
Aphelion sighed. No matter how much she wanted to blame Ghost, she couldn't. Ghost showed Gacrux many times that she has no interest in him and that frankly, his attention was unwelcomed. Yet he persisted and no one could convince him otherwise. Not even Ember, his mother. Their shouting matches became the stuff of legends.
But now he was gone and Aphelion had this feeling she will never see Gacrux again.

'What?' Aphelion snaps her wings closed. The citrine loop disappears between the folds. 'Who told you that? I never had a broken heart!' She looks at you intensely, her eyes flashing with anger. Then she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She is silent for a longer while. She opens them again, the anger almost gone now.
'If you're asking if I found another mate, then no. I have no one I wish to share my sleeping quarters with. I have no intentions to look for a mate right now. And I most certainly will not accept another arranged pairing. I hope that answers your question, because I will not discuss the matter further.'
Aphelion stands up, ready to leave.
'Now excuse me, I have a raid to participate in.'

Do you think you'll ever settle down with anyone again?
'Hmph!' Aphelion rapidly folds her wings close to her back. 'If you are asking if I am going to accept another arranged pairing, then no, I am not. Once I have tried to do the logical thing, for the good of the clan. Just look where it got me: Gacrux left without even saying a word and in addition to a silly mother I now have a weirdo of a daughter!'
She falls into a tense silence for a moment, but then relaxes a bit.
'As for a pairing for love, yes I would accept if I felt the dragon in question is trustworthy but...' she trails off. 'I am very skeptical you see. Just look at Irina, still waiting for her dream dragon to come along and sweep her away. How pathetic! I think I had enough talking about settling down for one day.'
