Melanocetus

When the clan first settled in their expansive new home, they assumed She of Stone was uninhabited. She was near impossible to reach in the first place by even the hardiest of dragons. And so, they stayed and Pelia dug and they carved out a gigantic mine. Everything was normal.

Then, a small team led by Marble discovered something buried under nearly an age's worth of rock. Or rather, someone.

Melanocetus had lived under the Earthshaker's sway for many years - too many in fact. She felt she could no longer serve her deity to the best of her ability, so she absconded from her old clan in the dead of night, planning to die somewhere where she would be of no hindrance to anyone. She was forced to move further and further south as she was discovered and evicted over and over, until she hit the territories that would become Dragonblight. They were so desolate, she thought, there was no way she'd be discovered again.

As it turns out, some snappers take a very, very long time to die. She had no idea so many years had passed since she'd left her clan, and she was displeased to find herself disturbed yet again - perhaps this time was the final straw. Out of sheer spite, she cast aside any notion of dying and now inhabits the lower tunnels where Pelia has yet to fully expand. She rarely speaks to anyone but Pelia and is often thought of as a boogeydragon by hatchlings who aren't quite sure if she's real or not. She carries a wealth of knowledge within her, some that is unknown to all except her, but good luck to anyone who wants her to share.

The light from the growth on her forehead has multiple purposes. One is to give lost members of Clan Dragonblight a single chance to avoid provoking her - so long as they identify themselves on sight, she'll give them directions or tell them to wait while she fetches Pelia. Another is to let Pelia know where she is, should they need to consult her on the earth's stability on expansions.

Invading dragons with not-so-good intentions almost always assume that Pelia and the small digging crew are all they have to worry about should they attempt to sneak into the clan in secret. They think they can easily hide in the labyrinthine tunnels, their movements entirely unnoticed. Inevitably they end up trapped in the darkness, panic rising with each step, for hours or even days trying to find an exit.

The third purpose of Melanocetus' light, and her personal favourite, is to make them think they have.
