She didn't quite plan this trip correctly. She flew directly into a massive storm. Her wings became coated in ice from the falling rain and she landed on an iceberg, frightened and exhausted, to try to rest. When she woke she was nose to nose with a young Imperial who was almost triple her size. She introduced herself as Nimbus and offered her a place to stay. Majesty eagerly agreed. Nimbus' clan, the Children of Eredin, welcomed Majesty with open arms. She slowly recovered her strength, and on the good days accompanied Nimbus on her daily travels throughout the Southern Icefield. On the bad days, she coughed and sputtered, her muscles and wings aching with cold while Nimbus tried to cheer her up with stories of her own travels. While she enjoyed the Icefield, Majesty was longing for home. She missed the warmth of the mountains and the glittering stars shining down each night. She had made her first real friend in Nimbus, and begged her to come with her back to the Isles. After a lot of persuasion, Nimbus decided that maybe ice for the rest of her life wasn't as great as it sounded. Once the two - plus a hatchling named Castor - arrived, they fell asleep in the first clearing they landed in and slept for a whole day. When they woke, they found that they had landed in a perfect spot. It was well-sheltered and comfortable, as well as easily defended. Majesty looked up at the quickly darkening sky and saw the stars she had missed so much, twinkling and gleaming like diamonds, seemingly going on forever. Thus, the House of Eternal Stars was born. Without further ado, the two began to set up their clan. As Majesty was off collecting supplies, she ran into a massive pink guardian. He offered to carry the materials she had collected, and the two got to talking. His name was Kahu, and he was searching for a clan. She invited him to join her, and he agreed. They fell head over heels in love, and had a single nest together. She was the happiest she had ever been; new members of the clan were joining daily, she was going to be a mother, and she had someone who loved her completely. Life couldn't have been more perfect. As the time for her children to hatch drew near, Kahu began to change. He was restless, sometimes disappearing for days at a time. Majesty was very concerned, but didn't think too hard about it. The idea of parenthood was probably just as stressful for him as it was for her. When the day finally came, and three perfect boys came tumbling out of their eggs, she was excited beyond belief. The whole clan - or what few members there were at that point - threw a celebration to welcome the new arrivals. But Kahu was nowhere to be seen. Patiently Majesty waited, wanting to show her children their father. The hours turned into days. She sent dragons out to see where he could have gone; they came back empty handed. The days turned into weeks. She offered rewards and sent letters to the leaders of nearby clans begging for information. She even asked some of the Beastclans for help. No one could find Kahu. Finally, a letter back told her where her beloved had disappeared to: the Observatory. He had decided to exalt himself and dedicate his life in service of the Arcanist, never to come back to her. Something inside Majesty twisted. She became very wary of newcomers; she turned away dragons who wanted to stay in the clan, even refusing hatchlings. She became irritable, even towards Nimbus, brushing her off when her friend tried to comfort her or offer advice. She barely left her den except to eat and to stretch her wings for the occasional solo flight. A rage was burning inside her. Why had he left her with these children without so much as a goodbye? Every day as her oldest son grew, his resemblence to his father grew alongside it. She became harsh towards him, making boy feel unwanted in his own home. When the abuse stepped up to physical, Nimbus could not sit by. For the first time in her life she raged at Majesty. She couldn't close the clan off from the world; that wasn't how the Starfall Isles or even Sornieth worked. She had a duty, a responsibility to them. She could not keep treating Ariki the way she was. It was not the boy's fault who his father was, and after all, she was his son. Majesty realized what she had to do. She called a meeting with the entire clan, and when they were all assembled, she stepped down from her throne. She stood in front of Ariki, and looked into his eyes, just like her own, and spoke. "I'm not sorry for treating you the way I did. I am sorry that you had to grow up without a father and with a poor excuse for a mother. There's nothing I can do about that, and if that's the last thing in this world I'm sorry for, then so be it." Before Ariki could respond, she flew away into the night. For a week she isolated herself, reflecting and trying to find peace. When she returned, she was changed yet again. Gone was the angry, spiteful child who had her heart broken. In her place stood a strong, level-headed adult who would ensure that her clan would never falter in the ways that she had. ________________________________________ |
