Outsiders daring to enter the realm of the Ashen Lexicon may be intimidated by the sovereign, Starless, but those of true knowledge will know that they are safe with the dragon known as Slateslush. If Starless is the fury, then Slateslush is the benevolence that reins in unnecessary bloodshed for the Ashen Lexicon. The she-dragon has a mother’s heart; fierce, yet viciously protective. She would violently fight for all under her care without discrimination. It was for this reason, however, that she bravely - or foolishly - crossed her mate, Starless. Starless, while loving to Slateslush, was harsh when it came to judgment for those who committed crimes against the clan. His mate hated seeing this punishment with a fierce loathing.
After one too many times of witnessing her husband pass his cruel sentences, Slateslush finally confronted her mate, refusing to partake in any more of her clanmates’ suffering under his claws. Of course, Starless was livid. How dare this dragon, who he allowed into his home, question his judgment? Slateslush had risen up against his will, and for that, he banished her from the Lexicon of Ashes for as long as she would exist on the earth, though a light sentence for the reputation of Starless. In truth, he never wanted to harm her, but he did what he saw fit to do in her case. Still, Slateslush was cast out of the clan she had called home and had nearly given her life for, on many occasions.
Heartbroken, she mourned her loss. She fought with herself internally. Slateslush knew that what Starless did was for the greater good of his clan, yet she could not bring herself to accept that this was the way things had to be. But in her mind, she knew that she had little power against Starless. Besides, she still loved him and, especially at that moment, she missed him greatly. Even if he could be pitiless at times, he was still her first and only love. That was known to Slateslush to be as true as the sun sets as the sun rises. Unfortunately, that did not make her welcome back into the clan. She had nowhere to go where she felt welcome and truly at home.
Time passed at a tortoise’s pace, as Slateslush wandered the Abiding Boneyard; a vagabond who was once something akin to a noble-dragoness. Dragons who saw her ghastly visage titled her the “The Mother of Bones,” for that is what her distraught face resembled. Slateslush eventually left the Scarred Wasteland and flew across the Sea of a Thousand Currents, passing through lands where fire fought the earth, and journeying to where dragons danced with storms. The moon passed through all his faces countless times and through it all, Slateslush drifted. Without her clan, she was but a small Tundra in an unforgiving world. She had no namesake, no home, and, soon, no more of her heart that she once so willingly gave. She became a faded dragon, an echo of what used to be.
Perhaps if it were not that Slateslush hadn’t forgotten the name of her mate, Starless would have never recognized the creature that had been caught in one of his hunter’s snare traps. But Slateslush remembered. She remembered why she left when she saw Starless, his cruel sneer gazing down at her when the hunters presented her to Starless in his sanctum. But she also remembered why she loved this dragon in the first place when Starless finally realized what dragon he looked upon, and Slateslush spoke his name. In that moment, it was undeniable that what love the two had for each other was reignited. Professing an apology, Starless begged Slateslush to return, an offer she couldn’t refuse.
After so long, Slateslush had finally come home, truly. She saw that Starless was doing his best to rule with gentle claws and found it best to forgive him for what he had done. He had become less volatile after she had left, for that it was easier for her to love him again. She spends her time with the nesting mothers, giving them advice and also caring for the young dragons. In the Scarred Wasteland, the Plaguebringer, as vile as she is, gives praise for loves like this. Plague dragons are vicious but have no limits when protecting those of their own kind. Any daring outsider could see that the love between Slateslush and Starless proved this to be true.

Hell
Hell is Slateslush's loyal Permafrost Impaler. She scours the nesting grounds alongside her and is usually the first to sense an intruder. Although she is not very intelligent compared to the other familiars, she is strong, fast, and understands enough to be helpful to the clan. She's also great with hatchlings!

Shamu
Shamu is a maren warrior who is known more for her kindness, dark sense of humor, and daredevil attitude than her hunting skills. She's quite popular with her pod, and in an effort to impress her friends, she ended up joining a clash against the Ashen Lexicon. After surviving the battle, Slateslush offered Shamu friendship. She took it, and now the two of them are often seen helping one another.
