Sully was born into a well-established clan at the Singer's Brook, in the Windswept Plateau. When he was very young, his father, Fergal, was called upon by the clan's leaders to be exalted to the Windsinger, an order he was unable to refuse. He was raised by his mother, Cairas, the clan's teacher.

His childhood was a peaceful one. He was an only child, quite unusual for dragons, but his friends more than made up for it. From a young age, he wanted to follow in his mother's footsteps, and studied hard to be as good a teacher as her.

Soon after his adulthood ceremony, Cairas, like her mate before her, was called on for exaltation, leaving Sully the last of his family in the clan. He took her place as the clan teacher, and did his best to help the clan's young dragons, but the exaltation of his mother weighed heavily. Though he rationalised that his parents were most likely alive and thriving, the thought of never seeing them again hurt him deeply.

Over the course of his long life, Sully had several mates, and scores of children. But eventually, most of them ended up exalted, like his parents. Slowly, as much as he hated himself for it, Sully grew to resent the Windsinger, and the clan leaders he couldn't refuse.

One day, in the middle of a push for dominance, his mate and her entire clutch were exalted on the same day. This was the last straw for Sully. He gave his apprentice his job, bade farewell to his friends, and set out in search of a clan where he could live peacefully.

He wandered for several years, before eventually reaching Lanternlea Port and coming across the Old Dragons New Life Hatchery. Seeing it as an excellent potential sanctuary, he eagerly signed up, settling into the clan quickly.

He sees the clan as a fresh new start for himself, and takes pride in being able to use his skills as a teacher again to help raise the hatchlings.
