Biography

Witches of the forest are rare in the lands of Plague. Asteodia is an exception to this rule, having been born in Plague and never deciding to leave. Forest witches derive their power from living things, and there is plenty of life in the Scarred Wasteland, as long as one knows where to look. Moss, mold, protozoa, parasites, worms – all of these are living things, and all are potentially sources of power.
Whereas most forest witches do their best to preserve the lives of the living things they draw power from, Asteodia practices a dark form of the magic that often kills what she is drawing power from – and that power is most often corrupted due to this. She channels life from creatures into life for herself and the trees she meticulously grows and grooms within her open-topped lair chamber. One tree in particular has had so much dark magic forced into its corporeal form that it has grown gnarled and twisted. It is sap from this tree that Asteodia drinks to give herself a temporary boost in magical strength, and thus she keeps a small pouch filled with day-old (at the most) sap on her at all times.
She rarely finds herself in situations where combat is warranted, but she keeps an array of defensive spells active at all times due to a slight paranoia that is the trace that being a conduit for such corrupting forces has left on her. Some demons even refuse to parley with her, claiming that she is death, and death is not theirs to guide. Most unaligned spirits, especially those affiliated with Nature, see her as abhorrent, and she is not in any position to argue the point.
She spends the vast majority of her time in her lair chamber; its position on the surface combined with her strong magical abilities make her a natural sentry. She does not begrudge this duty, as Beastclan have a life energy stronger than any worm or plant, and she has been able to capture more than one for later use as fuel. Their shriveled carcasses even prove useful, as fertilizer for her great tree.
