Former mate to Cobaltia. Hematien was the first to nest in the clan with her. After an affair with Nideth, the Archmystic cut all ties with him, but the Captain still spends time with his children and grandchildren (whenever Cobaltia is not around). Hematien often seeks Nideth out, but the feeling doesn't seem to be always reciprocated. They are lovers more than mates, despite the fact that they have children together.

From the Matriarch's children, Hematien's greatest charge is Soul, whom he trained to be the general of the small local force. Despite Soul technically being the leader of the Royal Guard by now, it is Hematien who still has the greater experience, and so he protects Soul as if he was his own son.

Originally, his son Nilakanta, Graucus and Ffyrnig used to be his soldiers, but Graucus since betrayed him and although he parted ways with Ffyrnig for a time, he can consider him his best friend, along with Lakke. With the latter two, they often go on expeditions outside the Chateau to bring back trophies.
