Biography

It began with the whisper of a promise. A mother speaks to her child, clutching the terrified hatchling to her chest tightly. "I'll be back." Setting the child down, speaking to the leader. He confirms her request. A touch on the cheek, sorrowful eyes peering into her child's. "I'll be back."

Chrystie's a silent, careful dragon. She is wary of others, and takes a few weeks to trust new arrivals to Darkate. Many dragons wishing to do the clan harm or scam its inhabitants have been detected by her and driven away by Star.
:)
However, once you manage to earn her trust, you have it forever. Tethys, her mate, could tell you all about how Chrystie always has his back, even when he doesn't really deserve it.
:)
Her ambition sometimes gets the better of her. It is not an unknown fact that she has been vying for the position of leader of a scavenger party. She'll work day and night to get noticed by the clan leaders, in the hopes that they might promote her. They haven't done so yet, but that will not keep her from trying.

Chrystie's mother breathed words of death. She warned Strider of a plague that was engulfing the Southern Icefield. She told him how her child had died, how her mate was on the brink of death. She hoped that bringing her remaining child here, she might live. She asked Strider if she could send letters to her baby. He agreed, if she promised to make sure each one carried no trace of the disease. She promised.
:)
The letters flowed like the sea, endless and full of surprises. Chrystie's mother wrote of things that seemed unbelievable: the sickness was ebbing away, the last infected dragons slowly recovering. Hope began to burn within Chrystie; perhaps she could return to her mother.
:)
But one day, they stopped. The letters no longer arrived. Finally, a weak, tick-infested bird made its last flight, landing pitifully at the feet of Chrystie. On its leg was a small note. It read: WE WERE WRONG. IT IS OVER. THE PLAGUE HAS RETURNED.
:)
The letter, the last memento of her mother, had to be burned, in case it carried the disease. Chrystie mourned her dead or dying mother and probably deceased father. It hurt, knowing that she had never even seen the face of her parents, except in lurid dreams and sad thoughts. The only thing she could cling to now was her mate, Tethys.
:)
With time, the pain faded away, leaving an old scar. It no longer sang with horrible pain. Instead, it twinged with a dull throb, an aching reminder of what was forever taken from her. She wears that scar as a badge, something that says, I'm alive. I'm alive and well. I have been to the depths of the Shade's domain, and I have come back, roiling, and kicking, and fighting. I will not give up hope. I will never give up hope again.
Tethys, the new initiate of Darkate, laughed. His features seemed so carefree. Typically, he was a closed-up and antisocial dragon, but not tonight. The good food and celebratory dragons seemed to loosen his tongue.
:)
Chrystie stood a few feet away, but in that instant, it seemed like a mile. She yearned to go and speak to the dragon. Something about him drew her close to him, pushed her thoughts to him. But, going across that mile-long void seemed impossible.
:)
But then he glanced at her.
:)
With that one fleeting look, Tethys gave her the bravery to step over that mile-long void, gave her the courage to realize that the void was a mere four feet. So she shook off her fears. And she stepped forward.
