It was the last hour of the day that shouldn't have been. At least, Soreinth experienced it as a day, though their clocks, hour glasses, and the sky itself had ceased to move since this days arrival. No hatchlings cracked their heads out of shells that had been predicted to hatch, nor did the gatherers wake for another day of work. It was ominous; a time that both was experienced but didn't exist. And that is when Rien arrived. When his mother woke on the non-day, she was startled to find an extra egg against her that had not been there before. It was true that she had a nest due for the next true day, but this shell, this child... it was unnatural. It didn't even appear the same as the others, its glow much duller and somehow darker than its siblings with a black slime lightly coating its exterior surface. She was repulsed, and then terrified, when the small embryo inside burst from its shell and into the non-existant day. Rien himself was just as non-existent as his birthday. His plumage matched his parents in a way, but it was also coated in the thick oily substance that had covered his egg. And his eyes... they were blue, that was true, but they were deep and hollow, as if no life existed within him. His motions were erratic and sudden like time only affected him in short and sudden bursts, and others swore that they saw the child vanish and appear in another place on more than one occasion. He was eerie and unnatural, and he was unwanted from his home. And so he arrived at the Enyo Clan just as the final minute passed in the cursed day. Sapna and Robin were waiting for him, both with knowing smiles. With the powers of hidden sight they possessed, they knew that the Shade would deliver them a new and unusual member to their family, and of what gifts he would bring to their home. Rien the warped: the single dragon unaffected by time or space, who's very presence stopped clocks and weather and sound itself, if he so chose. A child born on the Cursed Day. He waits. |
