Dante was born into the Candlelit Ruins, a clan in the Wispwillow Grove. His mother was the fiercest and most ruthless fighter of the clan, claiming the title of general. She raised him to have a strong sense of loyalty to the causes he believed in. His father wasn't really in the picture. As a hatchling and young dragon he was bullied and shamed consistently for his gembond. Pieces would periodically fall off, and his peers would pelt him with the bits of gem, along with bones and rocks and anything else they could get their hands on. Of course, never when his mother was around. He refused to tell her, firmly believing that these trials would make him stronger.
A while after he was grown, he disembarked from the Candlelit Ruins and from the Tangled Forest altogether to live in the House of Eternal Stars, a clan in the Starfall Isles. He worked hard to prove himself, and cemented a spot as one of the four Sentinels, or chief guards, of the clan.
He was quickly befriended by Nimbus, one of the two matriarchs of the House. After her first heartbreak and the emotional aftermath, Dante's feelings slowly began to change from one of simple friendship to a strong, unshakable love. He refused to tell her, though, because he knew that it would never be returned.
One of his only friends, Troubadour, decided that pursuing a relationship with Nimbus was worth his while. Knowing how Troubadour was, Dante was very uncomfortable with it. Their friendship quickly began to morph into a dark rivalry, with Nimbus at the dead center. It ended explosively after Troubadour broke Nimbus' heart.
Done with watching her get hurt, Dante confronted Troubadour. Troubadour confessed that he broke Nimbus' heart on purpose, that Dante was spineless to love her. Dante snapped, and they fought viciously. They were evenly matched, having trained together, and knew all of each other's weaknesses and strong points. Troubadour gained a sudden advantage, and thinking he had defeated Dante, began to walk away. Dante attacked with the last of his strength, and when he was inches away from throttling Troubadour to death, Nimbus stopped them.

When they returned to the House, Majesty demanded and explanation. Surprisingly, Troubadour gave an honest account of what had happened, admitting that he had been at fault for the incident. Majesty had every notion of exiling both of them right there, but Nimbus persuaded her otherwise.
As things died down, Dante slowly helped Nimbus put herself back together. Once she was ready, they both finally admitted the love that had been there all along. Dante had earned his place in the eyes of the clan, along with the respect of one of his greatest rivals, and no one would ever question his loyalty. Soon after this incident, he was removed from the Sentinel guard and given the title of Master at Arms. As a gift of thanks from Majesty, his gembond was removed permanently. Nimbus thought he should keep it, but ultimately Dante felt it would make him more like the dragon he wanted to be.
Ferocious in a fight and brave as they come, Dante is not one to back down to a challenge. He fights for his personal ideals of chivalry, honor, and love. He never misses an opportunity to help someone in need. He appears to be very professional, but once he lets his guard down - sometimes with the help of a few drinks - his heart of gold shines through, and everyone for miles can see the soft spot he hold for his Nimbus.
