It took a long time of searching and failures and dead ends, but here it was; an ancient book hidden in the depths of the Hewn City. It was in a forgotten tongue, but there was something about the pages that called to him. He could feel it yearned for him, needed him to uncover its secrets. Hurrying back to his homelands, he buried himself in ancient texts in an attempt to decipher the pages. It was a long and arduous process, but what was a few years to a dragon with eternity within his reach? Eventually, he had it, a translated page detailing the ritual. He headed deep into the Tangled Woods, research in hand and the book clutched tightly to his chest. For there was a special type of plant in these lands, a creeping bramble that fed on blood and grew over forgotten bodies left to rot among the trees. A spell, a potion, a fresh corpse. A slicing blade, grafting flesh and twisted wood. He awoke from unconsciousness to see his body transformed, covered in gnarled brambles and wicked thorns. He was disappointed he couldn't quite control the vines, but no matter. It is a small price to pay for his immortality. But then he found that warm sunlight of the Sunbeam Ruins scalded his flesh and burnt his eyes, and he reeled back in pain. It's a small price to pay, he reminded himself. But then the meals that had fed him his whole life clogged his throat and came hurling back up. It's a small price to pay, he said with a raw throat and streaming eyes. But then the hunger set in, a burning desire that tore at his mind and brought him to his knees in front of a fresh carcass, a fallen dragon with a shattered neck. It's a small price to pay he cried, mouth bloodied and fur matted.
So now he sits, rooted down by his own brambles in a dark cave, surrounded by his research. He still has the book, still works to translate its many pages. And he'll share the forbidden knowledge, should you seek it. Enter his cavern suffocated by thorns and bring the payment, still warm and dripping. He will give you what you seek. But make sure it's worth it.
