"What is food for one dragon is bitter poison for another."
Poison Bottle Lore Poison Bottles are a subspecies bred from dragons that underwent evolutionary mutation, due to a selective diet of poisonous and venomous insects. Over time their bodies ‘learned’ what they consumed, not only for immunities but to wield the toxins of their food as their own weapon. They are native to the Scarred Wasteland, where many toxic species of insects live. These dragons developed very distinctive colors, and often have hardened and/or reflective hides similar to a shell, or an exoskeleton. It is not unheard of or even uncommon for Poison Bottles to become more potent as they age, the continuous consumption of poisonous/venomous insects apparently contributing to their toxicity. Hybrid or early generation Poison Bottles are also known to be at a heightened risk of developing mental illnesses such as dementia, supposedly side-effects of all the poison in their systems, though 'pure', later generation Poison Bottles have better adapted to their own biology. All Poison Bottles are, as their name would suggest, highly poisonous. Their bodily fluids can cause a range of nasty symptoms up to and including death, which does happen on occasion. Poison Bottles are also immune to all known forms of poison. They are classified as 'carriers' of varying kinds, and in differing concentrations, to the point that many of them have blood or saliva which is acidic. As such, all members of the subspecies are extremely venomous. Their bites frequently cause burning sensations, rashes, weakened immune systems, heart failure, blindness, extreme pain, madness, and death. It's said that surviving bites from/exposure to the poisons of a Poison Bottle will result in mutation within the victim which can cause them to become a Poison Bottle themselves, though this is notably rare... and most do not survive to begin with. Reports of Poison Bottles so toxic that even their breath can form into a poisonous gas remain unconfirmed, but pervasive. It is possible, albeit extremely dangerous, to harvest toxins from Poison Bottles. The endeavor is further compounded by the fact that it’s impossible to determine what sort of carrier they are beforehand. The scope of their poisonous capabilities differ among clans, breeds, and geographical regions, and may anything from corrosive, paralytic, anaphylactic, etc. to an all-encompassing arsenal, though the latter is rare. The high risk presented does not deter more foolhardy dragons from attempting, but it’s generally easier just to barter with a Poison Bottle. In the end it is safer and more beneficial to woo one into a clan, because they could provide a constant supply of toxin which is identified by friendlier means, instead of a one-time and potentially fatal collection. Poison Bottles are often as selective socially as they are in their diets, and while they can form vast communities among their own kind, they rarely deign to associate with other species. Poison Bottles in mixed lairs tend to keep to themselves, members of clans in name only, and perhaps it's best that way as few other dragons are able to safely interact with them. They tend to present themselves as very durable, tough individuals, at times going to so far as to challenge others to tests of tolerance and bravery. In a similar way, non-toxic dragons will engage with a Poison Bottle on a dare, as if to prove they are either the ultimate survivors, or the bravest of idiots. Wildclaws in particular will tease a Poison Bottle into attempting a bite just to prove they can survive it. An alternative to this practice is lacing food or drink with harvested Poison Bottle toxins and deliberately consuming it. Unfortunately this almost always results in severe illness, or even death. Overcoming such endeavors is considered by most to be more a measure of luck rather than actual strength. |

Likes to make potions and experiment with poisons and plants. Close friends with Severus since they share a passion for potion-making. Often collaborating with Akantha to make medicinal potions. Like Samhain, she's very in tune with nature; they often wander the woods in search of plants to use in her potions. They also share their mischievous personnality and carefree yet mysterious attitude, though Aconite is maybe a bit more calm and wise than Samhain. She likes to tease and play pranks by imitating other dragons' voices. When she uses her own voice, she usually talks in a wispy voice, a bit muffled by her mask. She never lets her mischievous personality getting in the way of her potion making though, as she knows how dangerous a botched potion can be. |
