It has been many years since the dragon who answered to no name came to Sunfalle and was met with kindness for the first time. In the time before that, a Shade seed had taken root in her veins and fed upon the ice magic that coursed through her body, awakening a ravenous hunger in her that no mere meat could ease. The first clan she had encountered after her transformation called her a monster, and thus a monster she became. But there was a time before they were riddled with an all-consuming hunger, when they were just a young dragon like any other. They had a family, and they had a name. The memory of their name has been lost for so long that they assumed it was gone forever. And yet Secunda, of all dragons, was the one to eventually help her reclaim her name. She had gone to the clan’s leader once Sunfalle had settled into their new home, seeking something of a truce. Torrel spent each day fearing for the fate of his clan, pacing back and forth and wondering if its new leader had some sort of plot in mind to get himself and Nisve sent away, and she was frankly sick of him stressing so hard he was losing his feathers. So she went to settle the score with Secunda, to make some kind of peace between them. How lucky for them, then, that Secunda was equally eager to put their conflict to rest. The leader was quick to reassure them that there was no animosity between her and Nisve, and while she had her own set of problems with Torrel, the time to act on them was long gone and it was more an issue of dealing with them privately. Nisve found themself asking about the problems, and Secunda found herself sharing them, and all of a sudden the two dragons had been talking for hours. Thus assured, Nisve prepared to leave, but Secunda stopped her and said that she had an offer to make, something to truly convince Torrel that she meant them no harm. She had been working for some time, it seemed, on a potion that could restore the drinker’s mind to a healthier state, and she offered one to Nisve as a gesture of goodwill. Upon taking the potion, the wildclaw suddenly found themself able to dredge up memories they didn’t know they had - memories of their youth before they had changed. They recalled their name, and their family. And at the same time, the yawning chasm of hunger that had been constant within them for years was suddenly and unceremoniously gone. The potion had worked. Rather than the nameless monster, she remembered being Nisve. And the elixir had undone the havoc wreaked upon her mind so that she might live normally, without having an endless hunger to suppress or a well of rage to fight down. And while it was not thanks to the potion, Nisve suspected that she had one more boon - a friend in Sunfalle, thanks to Secunda. |
