Biography
Elion
ell-ee-ohn Factual | Alchemist of the Toxic Wastes | Scavenger
Backstory When Elion's egg hatched, rather than being in a cozy nest in his home, it was in a dirty satchel carried by a member of a roaming clan of thieves that had been passing through the Scarred Wasteland. Knowing nothing else, Elion didn't realize he had been taken from his home, and accepted his life as it seemed to be. The thieves had taken him to be an apprentice, to become one of them; they had no Skydancers, and were eager to obtain one for their ability to sense emotional auras and states of mind. Both of Elion's parents were Skydancers; the group knew one of the eggs would be a guarantee. One of their Faes had stolen the egg in the dead of night when Elion's mother was distracted by her nightly dance to the Plaguebringer. One thing the group had neglected to think of was how difficult it would be to raise a hatchling in the environment they lived in; Elion was constantly clamoring for food or attention, and the thieves, not used to caring for something so needy, were hardly prepared to provide. As Elion began to painstakingly learn how to care for himself, the thieves discussed dropping him back in the Scarred Wasteland and trying to find a Skydancer some other way - a grown one, at that. Even as he figured out how to hunt and fly on his own, Elion was still too young to grasp the things they wanted him to know - and his stunted social upbringing had negatively impacted his ability to fully understand the emotions of others, leaving him near-useless for what they had planned. When the group passed through the Scarred Wasteland again, Elion was left near the Wyrmwound; the thieves assumed he would be able to find his way home from there. What they didn't account for was the location of his home clan... on the other side of the Wyrmwound. Having never known his home, the instructions "go back to your family" were useless to him, and Elion was left to wander aimlessly in one of the most dangerous places in Sornieth for a juvenile dragon. It was around this time that Lula found him throwing things into the Wyrmwound to see what would happen. She asked him about what he was doing, and then where his home was. When Elion said he didn't know, but he was supposed to find it, Lula offered to accompany him there out of sympathy for his obvious plight. He was thin and filthy, his feathers ruffled and fur scorched by the Wyrmwound. Lula decided she would watch over him herself and get him home - wherever home was. The two began to travel together, and Elion's appearance slowly improved as Lula showed him how to find food in the Wasteland and groom himself. He was an alright hunter, but had never been back in Plague territory until then; without Lula's help, it was likely he'd never have figured out how to get the food he needed. Despite Elion's strange mannerisms and typically monotone way of speaking, Lula found it easy to care about him, and the two grew close as they traveled. When they found themselves along the Wandering Contagion, nearing the Arcane border, Lula asked Elion if they were any closer to his home. He finally confessed that he didn't know, and he'd never known; he hadn't told her because he wanted to seem like he knew what he was doing, like the thieves had tried to teach him. Distressed, Lula said they needed to find whatever home they could, then - fighting off predators was exhausting her, and he needed a place where he would be safe. She said she would go looking nearby, but to keep them safer, she decided to leave Elion the way she would leave a child of her own if she had one - groomed clean and hiding in a patch of shrubbery so he would be hard for predators to find. After she left, however, he was quickly discovered; not by beasts, but by a lone Fae, scavenging for ingredients - Cantio. He was surprised to find a young Skydancer in the brush, and was quick to ask Elion why he was there and what he was doing. Elion told him everything, and Cantio, caring to a fault, waited by his side until Lula returned and then told her about the Toxic Wastes. There was a certain eagerness about Cantio to bringing Elion into the clan; the young Skydancer reminded him of Tox, in a way. Upon arriving back at the lair, Elion would reveal his interest in alchemy, immediately prompting Cantio to offer an understudy position with Tox. Tox was aggravated upon learning of this, as he hadn't approved of it and didn't like most other dragons, but shockingly warmed up to Elion when they met. Cantio was delighted, and Andiron was happy to approve Elion's move to the Wastes with how well he seemed to get along with the Alchemist and his assistant. Lula is still highly protective of him, but surprisingly enough, both Tox and Cantio have developed much the same feelings - Tox always goes out with Elion when he scavenges, and Cantio is constantly flitting over his shoulder when he works on his own brews and creations in Tox's laboratory. |
