A prayer can help you to find your inner strength, to defeat your insecurities. A prayer can help you to find your lost hope, to come clean with yourself and maybe even with your enemies.
However, there are things a prayer cannot save you from.
And those things are merciless.

How many days had it been since Jetset has started her journey? She didn't know, but the sun had been wandering over her head, exchanging its place with the moon, for so many times that her head swirled from thinking about it alone.
From time to time, she had to remind herself why she was even here, so far from home, in the middle of nowhere. Leaving the Sunbeam Ruins had never been a part of her plan- she had wanted to stay there, to live a life among the other Light dragons who felt so much like home. But this wasn't about a 'choice' anymore- it was about life and death. Literally.
She had left the Shifting Expanse just a few days ago, that unwelcoming, dry land, filled up with the static crackle of never-ending thunderstorms. However, now that she had crossed the border into the Ashfall Waste, she almost missed the Stormcatcher's realm. It was hot here, too hot, and she longed for a drop of water more than ever before.
Her wings twitched uselessly- her power to fly had been gone long ago, and all she could do was to push her slender body ahead, taking a rest whenever she feared to lose her ability to stay awake any longer.
Poisoned. Her veins were filled up with that fluid, at least that's what she imagined: She was aware that this image was an exaggeration, that there was only a small amount of venom running through her body, and yet it was enough to push her closer to death than to life.
A snake's venom. It had been a dangerous one, yes, but other dragons had been bitten before and none of them had showed such a reaction. Neither Spirals nor Skydancers, who were her family, showed any sign of death hovering above them only because of a snake's bite- why did she have to suffer so much? Was it her destiny... or bad luck?
Her lips kepf forming prayers, and though her voice had become too weak to make those words resonate in her throat, she felt calmed by the simple fact of being filled up with her own belief.
"Lightweaver, save me..."

She reached her destination, already on the merge of meeting her Godess in person. The Volcanic Vents- the only place where she could find the help she needed. Otherwise, she was sure she would take her final breath on this unfamiliar ground, far away from home. There was just no strength left to travel home, only to die in the bright lands.
"Help... please..."
She shouted, then whispered because there was no strength left for another yell. But there was no need for that anyway: She had been heard.
Jetset was unable to see the face of the being that was bending down to her. It was all disguised, the hood only showing thin arms and a long, muscular tail. It scared her, that tail, reminding her so much of the snake that had injected the deadly venom into her body. At the same time, she felt... relieved. Wasn't this what she had come here for?
"Venomcaster of the Serthis... I ask you to heal me."
"A dragon begs a Beastclan member for help? What an interesting time to witness."
"Can you take this curse from me?"
"No."
Her heart wrechned at that straight-forward answer, and yet she was not ready to give up.
"Why not?"
"I cannot take it from you. But I can exchange it with another curse, if that is what you wish for."
"Please."
"You did not even ask about the alternative curse. Why is that?"
"Because I don't care. All I want is to live."
"This is a direct answer. An honest one, too."
"So... can you help me?"
"I can. And I will. But be aware that everything I do for you has its price."

Those days have been gone for such a long time, and yet Jetset still recalled the time before she had set off for a journey to survive very well. A time when she had been different- thin and swift, able to fly like a bird, not plump and bound to the ground like she was now.
The Serthis had kept his promise: He had injected another venom, one that reactivated her strength, that pushed away the poison that had already started to corrode her nerves and organs. However, no antidote came without any byeffects. It had not only healed her body, but changed it too- everting her genetic code, ripping it apart and mending it again until nothing of her former experience was left anymore, bare for her vivid colors.
Bogsneak. She had heard of this strange species before, had heard of mutations, but she had never seen one before. And she had never dreamed of becoming one, either.
However, this was not where the changes stopped.
Just a few days after her rescue, she had felt her body altering even more- in the most unpleasant way, that is.
She had felt it, but it wasn't before she had found a lake big enough to mirror her image that she had gotten aware of what exactly had been happening to her.
Teeth growing from her chin, additional eyes opening in her face, a vestigial wing creeping from her skin, rotten flesh sprawling over claws and bones that shouldn't have been there in the first place...
But never had the thought that she shouldn't have agreed to the Venomcaster's deal cross her mind. This wasn't what she had wanted. But it was more than she had hoped for. A crippled life indeed, but a life.
However, as soon as she had seen her own reflection, she had been aware that no one would welcome her back like this. That no one would understand her decision. Her wish to rather live this life as a monster than to lose it forever.
And thus, she had turned away from her original path, crossing the home of the Tidelord, entering the Scarred Wastelands. A place where her appereance might still startle others, but at least she was sure that here, she would find a way to be accepted. a new home.
She had been followed by the smooth sound of scales on the ground, a strange shadow tucked to her own.
This was it, the deal: He would continue to feed her with antidote, antidote that would continue to distort her body but that would keep her alive too. And therefore, he would be allowed to live among dragons, his enemies, his demise- and still something that was so unbelievably interesting to him that he would leave his own home in order to be close to them, to study them.
A life for wisdom. Not a bad deal on either side.
