DAY 1, 2, 3

Found the thing washed ashore, long dead. He was nigh unrecognizable, disfigured, hide burned dark, likely from the deep-sea volcanic vents. Fear bubbled up among us when we saw the growing limbs, the extra heads. We almost tossed him back in, but...
We... did something risky. Something that may have endangered all of Sornieth, and.... it worked. As far as we know.
It was Kuro'os idea, for the record. Maybe he saw something in the... in the corpse. The growing emperor. I was angry. Fuming, to do such a bold... risky, reckless thing for your fellow Imperial, at the risk of the whole region, at the risk of Sornieth.
But I didn't say anything. I couldn't relate. Who could? Kuro'o has strange ways. And once his mind was set, he was determined to succeed.

A couple dragons donated blood, and tissue... The doc removed extra (now vestigial) bits, oversaw... We all hauled him back to camp. He's being watched like a hawk. Three guards to alert us when he stirs, and has hourly vitals, Kuro'os orders. His recovery is fairly quick, doc says its something about 'extraterrestrial fragments'. I think its that leyline he's rested on. Maybe both.

Something about him seems.... off. He looks... Ancient. Not of this age. The age of the gods. He's giant, hulking, but gnarled and twisted like a mummy. But, he's not dead anymore. His chest rises and falls. Does he still have a brain? A soul? He smells like a bit more than just brine and decay... Perhaps it was his last addition.

-Donaver, observation log #1

DAY 4

He looked at me.

His eyes opened. Plague, we can tell now. As red as the wasteland sky.

At first I was gripped by terror. He held still, his gaze fixed on.. me, of all dragons. He didn't seem to have the energy to lift his head, let alone speak ... or attack...
But I could just tell. This dragon was stronger than almost all of us present. Possibly combined.
If Zero were here, or Vulcan, there'd be a chance, but...

Blank eyes. But, they weren't really blank. He was... thinking. Something. Taking in his surroundings no doubt. His body. His encumbrance in the form of decay. His hunger, emptiness. What could he feel? Cold? Hot? Maybe the leyline was keeping him warm?

We did know one thing, though. He was thinking, and that means we have completed step one.

-Donaver, observation log #2

..............

Land... Ground.

It has been... a long time.

It's quiet... No ... No company?

Where am I..? Where are they...? What.. was my.. name? Do they know..?

My ..nose.. my mind........ Tells me there are sacrifices. Offerings? But these.. These are dragons. Fellow dragons... I am a dragon. Then they... rrgh...

This one... staring at me. Smells of fear. I smell fear...

Tired........

DAY 8

He's eating. At my suggestion, we tried plants and insects first, more protein and fiber and easier on a stomach. In my own experience, anyway.

While Imperials seem to prefer the bounty of the sea, seafood is rich and may be too much. Upsetting the now somehow intact digestive innards is unwise and could seriously mess with recovery, as Kuro'o is concerned. Plague dragons are hardy and have historically (and famously) sustained off of rotten and infected life, but they're still mortal.

Meat is also very rich, the kinds we have on hand anyway.

It may also cause a bloodlust.
No one forgot about the heads.

-Donaver, observation log #3

DAY 11

His healing is astoundingly fast. I'm sure I've mentioned this already, but it's got to be the leyline. I think. Kuro'o has been chatting with another dragon about the recovery speed, what was his name? Yomiel? Ugh. Don't like him either. Moves like a possessed puppet himself. Why does this clan attract all the weird ones.

He's able to move about now, albeit slowly. He looks... Like a zombie. That is what he is though, by definition. A zombie. We created a zombie.
We all really hope he doesn't bite.

The caravan and squad are growing restless from being in one camp for over a month. We sent runners out to both of our bases in The Great Furnace and The Wyrmwound, lest they get worried we're occupied by a threat. Or worse.

...
Why is he so... docile? I thought this whole ordeal would... Require us to fight a monster. The Lightweaver's folly. But instead, it's as though we're caring for a wounded elder, with the mind of a quiet hatchling. It still bothers me.

Kuro'o... I may be relieved, but I'm still livid. You're lucky your little mad doctor venture worked or we'd all likely be dead. Food and fodder for the amalgamate.

-Donaver, observation log #4

....

.....
I was dead before this. The scarred black and white one tells me.

When something living dies, does it come back? Are we supposed to?

He still smells like an offering. I have begun pushing these thoughts away, how could an offering be this hospitable? Maybe I will tell him how I feel, but my throat feels dry, and hollow. Only whispers.
I am also detecting other things. He smells of.... Clean. Cold. Sharp. I smell of the sea... Of the abyss. Rot. ... Traces of other scents reach me, but I cannot determine their origin.

He is... the same species as me. I am... Like him? We both have scars... What makes us different is color... and scent... Has he ever died?

...

I am tired of eating bugs.

DAY 15

He has full range of motion now. It's truly impressive. We found him in a crumpled heap on the beach, the pressure and waves beating his corpse far beyond any healthy shape. And now...

He's out walking the perimeter. Watching for the patrol group to come back. Kuro'o is eyeing him, of course, and a couple others are stationed out further if he wanders.
He cannot speak, spoken draconian has escaped him. He seems to comprehend everything said to him, but... Our resident mad doctor claims his vocal chords are intact, so perhaps one day he will talk. Once he feels he can.

There's a spark in his eyes again, the yearning for life. I won't sugarcoat, it looks downright sinister, the way his face shows scarring and bare bone. But his eyes betray no ill intent, no gleeful murderous impulse. Only... Curiosity. Thinking, again, about everything. Taking it all in. Looking forward to something new?

I overheard Kuro'o mention why he did it. 'Reminds him of a friend...' with this far-off look in his eyes. How... ridiculous. You may have had a "friend" that looked like him or some such nonsense, but this is not the same dragon, you said it yourself. I just don't get it.

-Donaver, observation log #5

The light is much too bright. Everything is... vivid and vibrant. I am not used to this, but I do not know why.

I asked the good doctor for a covering, for my head. It keeps the harsh lights out, and I feel that it... Makes me more likable. In dark places I sometimes pull it back, but I prefer it on.

Scents, sounds, and energies tell me more than sight ever could. I still feel the stares, despite not seeing them. There are still whispers, doubts. I feel that this is a normal reaction to my body. It is not pretty.
I still do not know why I have certain scars.

Past

He was here. Or maybe he was not. The water, it boils it burns it threatens to bubble over in its wrath. It claws at the earth its prison, it combines with magma and it wails when it gets hot enough. But it does not cool. It never cools. Why can it, how can it? The heat is too much. It has always been too much.

They float down, the corpses, the death, the sacrifice meant for him. Or maybe not meant for him. The water consumes them, destroys them, never lets him wake or take them for his own.

He cannot wake, cannot fly, cannot leave. No, not yet.

Past Relationships

Kyteä - Where is she? She was a bubble, a part of him, and she floated away, the water carrying her out. Where is she? Why can't he find her?

River's Echo - She calls, she calls, but he can't answer. Is she coming? Will she give him his greatest wish? Where is she? Will the water let her pass?

Dapplemoon - A second shadow passes over the water. He can smell it, he can, she smells like a sacrifice, something to break the chains.
