Aurelius

When Teddy first spotted him, Aurelius was perched on a pedestal in the auction house with a price tag slung around his neck. He was advertised as a spoil of war from the Southern Icefield. Some clan's personal prize to be groomed and polished. It was not the Nocturne's coat of gleaming jewels that Teddy first noticed, but the way his head was bowed, bristling with shame and disgust. He did not hide his sorrow well enough for an Ice dragon.
Rather than become the jewel in a glittering crown, Aurelius was assigned the role of Treasure Archivist, as it was soon discovered that he had a memory for artefacts and all things precious.
Though he loves the sight of the gold and gems that flow through the clan's vault in a glistening river, he cannot help but despise the glittering blisters that cover his skin. Away from prying eyes, he tries night after night to peel them away from his hide, tugging at the accursed jewels until his scales are torn away. He fears handling the treasure that comes his way, lest more sparkling stones become affixed to his wretched body. Thrice, he's attempted sitting in the furnace to melt his troubles away, but each time. he's found himself dragged out before the fire can consume his flesh.
