Maleficent

Maleficent is a cunning and passionate sorceress. She is not mean or cruel, but she is clever and dangerous. She is often busy mixing potions and casting spells--spending most of her time in the Starwood Strand, where the demon dragons of Vixen's Clan reside. Darker characters fit in better there. As an introvert, she is used to being left alone, but she's not necessarily unfriendly. She has been seen very enthusiastic around her mates and others that share her dark personality. However, her projects are what get the most of her attention.

Maleficent is one of the few that hatched right here in Vixen's Clan and has never left. From the second nest of Twilight and Mink, Maleficent was another astoundingly beautiful hatchling, like her brother Fairydust. Her parents felt like they couldn't be able to keep her as well since Fairydust was already a hatchling that stayed within the lair rather than being sold. After all, she was born during the earlier days of the clan when they were smaller and in more need of treasure. However, as Vixen had okay'ed Fairydust's stay, she also said yes to Maleficent. But as the little Skydancer grew up, her parents wondered and worried if she would leave anyway. She was much darker and more tenacious than her brother. She was also very eccentric and flighty. In the early days, many wondered if she would eventually leave the clan for good. But as days turned into months turned into years, they accepted that she was here to stay. Also, as years passed, she became less mischievous and more devoted to her passion: sorcery. Though the younger version of her was snarky and surreptitious, the mature version of her was secure and straightforward. She told her parents and the rest of the clan that this was her home and it would always be her home.

As a youth, she wanted to hide that she was an Arcane dragon. She hung out with mostly Shadow dragons and wanted to convince them that she was just like them. She found that by hiding her eyes she could get away with this, so that's what she did. However, as she aged and became less interested in pleasing and impressing others and more interested in her own passion and talents, she started to embrace her Arcane heritage. She was born into and lived in a clan that was very proud to be Arcanites. After a while, she started to feel that pride. Shadow dragons may be cunning and dark but Arcane dragons are blessed with the power of magic and study: two things that were very close to her heart. She may look like a Shadow dragon to outsiders, but now when strangers notice that she is in fact Arcane, she is not ashamed, but instead proud to be who she is.

Relationships:

Although as a youth she was very rebellious and generally ignored her parents, she now has a pretty stable relationship with both of them. As she has matured and become more secure with herself, she has become interested in her father, since he is the clan soothsayer but is also a retired warrior with much history. He used to tell all the hatchlings stories about his past, but back then she never listened. But now when she's not busy, she'll make time to listen to him. She also goes to him for advice, which he appreciates. She had never been very close to her mother (because of truly differing personalities), but she now makes the effort to interact with her mother. Although her mother is very different from her, she truly appreciates her daughter's efforts and likes being a part of her life. Maleficent also originally paid little attention to her older brother, mostly because his personality was much like their parents, especially their mother's. As a youth, this bothered her, since he'd take their parents' side and urge her to be careful and not cause too much mischief or damage. She also eschewed him because although they shared the same parents, they came from different clutches, and thus she didn't feel as close to him since he was already an adult for a couple months by the time she was born. However, nowadays she and him have a pretty good relationship. They laugh about their younger selves and have become quite close siblings. They are, after all, the only siblings that were hatched in the lair and have never left.
After a long while alone, her brother Fairydust finally took a mate--Hecate. She immediately liked the Arcane Skydancer who reminded her a lot of both her mother and her brother. She knew they'd be happy together. Hecate reached out to her early on--eager to get to know her new extended family. Maleficent appreciated this and actually bonded with Hecate easily. She gladly embraces her new sister.

Her first mate was Azurite, a Lightning Spiral, and although he was a strange and magical fellow, he was not quite as dark as the others they lived around. Eventually, this got to him and he decided to leave. She did not mind his absence. Her next mate was Mor, an Ice Guardian, who was much darker and thus more like her and her neighbors. However, he was almost too dark and showed little interest in anything besides assassinations or revenge. He became bored and eventually left. She did not mind his absence. Then Cthulhu came along. Although he is a dark being, there is more to him than that, and he knows how to have fun. Whenever Maleficent comes up with a new potion or has finished something she was long working on, she'd show Cthulhu and he'd be genuinely interested, praising her and asking questions about what it was made of and what it did. This made Maleficent glow and like his company. Thus, she did not mind if he strayed to other dragons to flirt or breed so long as at the end of the day he returned to her to listen to her day.

Her familiar is the result of one of her potions gone wrong. She didn't intend to make the little creature but at the end of the day she realized it was still hanging around. It would run into things and make goofy squawking noises which made her laugh. Since Cthulhu would be gone all day, she liked its company. When he finally met it, he seemed to like it, too. It showed affection for both of them. Now Maleficent can't imagine spending her workday without it running around her legs and knocking things over.

Although the Hippalectryon brought much joy to Maleficent's life, one day Cthulhu surprised her with a cat. He had heard of dragons talking about these new "cat" things lurking in Sornieth and that you could adopt one like some dragons did with birds. He didn't like the birds, nor did Maleficent, but this "cat" thing intrigued him. So he searched for one. He learned from the other dragons that cats are very clever and sneaky and this ringed true as it took many days to find one. One day during the search, he got hungry. He was too far from the clan hoard so he decided he was just going to sneak some food from a nearby hoard. They were a big clan; they would never notice. However, he seemed to not be the only one with this idea. As he neared the hoard, he finally spotted one! A black cat pounced a couple feet in front of him, landing on an insect that it then snarfed down. He figured this cat was probably part of their clan so just watched in admiration. But then a big Guardian from the clan noticed the cat and yelled. It threw a bone at the cat; the cat screeched and ran right towards him! Before he could react, the cat climbed up his front legs and hid behind his shoulders. The Guardian spotted him and growled, "Get that thing away from our hoard! If I see you here again, I'll announce you as thieves!" Once the Guardian turned away, the cat climbed atop his head and looked into his eyes. Realizing they had the same color eyes, it purred. Cthulhu liked this sound. He knew Maleficent would be very pleased. When he finally presented the cat to her, she cocked her head curiously. She had never seen anything like it in Sornieth before. It was so...tiny. He explained what he learned about cats and about the adventure he had trying to find one for her. She smiled and thanked him for the gift, rubbing noses with him. The cat took that opportunity to crawl from his head to hers. Once it lay on top of her head, it decided that was it's new bed. As the days passed with her new companion, she became very fond of its company. It didn't make her laugh like her familiar did but it did bring her lots of comfort and helped ease any stress. The familiar and the cat became playmates and Maleficent and Cthulhu thoroughly enjoyed watching them play together.
