He left his clan as an adolescent; he was never one for dominance battles, or battles in general. Looking back, he considers himself lucky to have evaded the call to serve the Shadowbinder, considering his unwillingness to train in the coliseum. He definitely didn't need to prove his size or strength, but he didn't feel the same calling as his brothers and sisters to fight. Instead he felt moved to travel and explore, a creative sense that he didn't see in those of his birth clan. So, when he was able, he left his nest. During his travels he saw many things of beauty, both natural and dragon-built. His favorites included sunsets, the colorful gems of the crystal pools, and the stained glass windows of the ancient temples. They reminded him of his own wing patterning. He wasn't terribly outgoing, but his kind nature did allow him conversations with artisans along his journey who introduced him to many things, including the stories behind those temple windows, and before he knew it he had a new hobby. The large, sturdy built guardian who crafted quite beautiful stained glass works of art! He came across a modest clan who was welcoming, yet gave him space to do as he pleased, and he decided to stay a while. He took to exploring his new clan settlement in the evenings, to watch the sunset fade into dusk. One evening he noticed some lush blackberries and paused to try a few; they were delicious. He nosed deeper into the bush for more and bumped into something that jumped at the same time. Pushing the bushes aside he came face to face with a beautiful midnight pearlcatcher who immediately blushed, aqua coloring creeping up onto her face. His eyes danced as he saw a glint of shimmering within the bushes. He managed to coax her halfway out of the bush and could see she was nervous, so he gently apologized and introduced himself. A small smile was her reply and immediately he felt a fondness for her. Over time she slowly opened up to him and their bond grew. She was very quiet and reserved, but they would go on walks together where she would show him her flower gardens, and all the best spots to gather for the clan. He liked learning from her, as well as watching the colors dance across her shimmering wings from the setting sun. One night as they were watching the colors fade into the comforting darkness, his heart skipped a beat, and he wrapped his wing around her, pulling her close. She seemed startled at first, but quickly relaxed, leaning into his warm embrace. He nuzzled her head, happy and content. Some time later, a wildclaw on night watch mentioned he had seen Aravae around the nesting grounds. How strange. He ventured over to investigate, and it turned out that the wildclaw was not wrong. There, in a quiet, shadowy corner of the grounds, was his pearlcatcher. He watched her for a few moments, rustling around, putting some finishing touches on her very first nest. She paused, then turned to see him, blushing aqua again. He smiled gently and approached the nest, settling down next to her. They spent the night together in the nesting grounds, and he felt a sense of harmony and peace; he and his mate. It was meant to be. |
