Clan of the Decaying Sun: Part One
« So, you want to know where I got this name? »
The young lord looked at his first children with a wry smile. They were sitting, restless as always, staring at him, eager to listen to a new story about an old time. An old time not that far but far enough for intrepid hatchlings.
“Well, this is going to be a long, looong story. Are you ready?” But of course they were. Shadow almost jump at him, wanting him to start quickly.
“I was born in the shade of the Trading Post from an egg on Pinkerton's Plundered Pile. The dragon was not very pleased to see me there and ask me to try not to bother him as he gave away his sister’s collection. At the beginning, I stayed by his side, watching dragons wander in the big city. Discovering dragons’ habits was very delightful and I quickly start to analyse them in order to know them, to guess before them what they were going to do, how they were going to react. Patiently, I became more and more skilled and had some fun giving advice to the sellers against some food and stuff.
But time was hard and soon enough, they got tired of me, afraid I was here just to steal their items. They try to get rid of me and got what they feared: I had no choice but to become a thief to survive. But snatching goods wasn’t enough for me, I wanted more fun, something more exiting. I started to swindle dragons with several games: cards, gamble and challenge. I’d like to tell you I wasn’t so deft, that I had to change my way of life but it won’t be true. I was amazingly great at tricking people that troubles began…
I made myself several enemies and had to spend lots of time fighting to survive. It was fantastic! Pretty dangerous but I had so much fun… I didn’t understand at this time that I could really get hurt and even die. I didn’t realise it until I met your mother.
As always, she got lost and wasn’t able to find her way with all the smells of the big city. Unfortunately, she fell in the wrong back alley, at the worst time. Some guys wanted to hurt and abuse her. I’m not a hero and when I saw it, at first, I didn’t really want to get involved. I had seen your mother several times before, going weird things in the streets, asking weirder questions to random dragons and being lightly bullied. Even when dragons were very mean to her, she kept her smile. Her cute, mindless smile. This smile was getting on my nerves but was also melting my heart. I couldn’t leave her being hurt without moving a claw so I managed to save her fluffy haunch.
I thought she would thanks me and disappear but she said I was amazing, that she never had met someone that witty. She really wanted to know my name and stay with me… This was such a nonsense! And she started to talk, to talk, to talk… she had read so much books and had a strange romantic vision of life… When I explained her I had no name, the most incredible smile born on her lips and she declared she had to find me one.
She told me:
“As you saved me from savage barbarians, you are my knight. You are The_Witty_Knight!”

The Clan's Leader
The_Witty_Knight called Witty born from an unwanted egg on Pinkerston’s Pile and wandered the Trading Post during his early years. He learned everything he had to become the perfect trickster, hated by all the merchants of the big City and other thieves. Everything changed when he met the love of his life: The_Fluffy_Lady, a tundra. Fluffy was able to reassure his cold heart with all her joy and patience. Thanks to her, Witty was no more alone, he had someone to care for, someone to surpass himself for and became a true knight. He learned to survive outside the City, in the Tangled Wood with Sykyk, an imperial wanderer with a strong sense of justice who made Witty review all the decisions he had taken in his life. During their trip, they met Vadakkan, a confirmed warrior and his apprentice, MirrorOfErised. After harsh negociations, the great warrior agreed to trained Witty, Sydyk and Fluffy. The tundra quickly preferred to devote herself to healing but the two men worked wonders! Realising the fifth of them where getting along pretty well and seemed to have a common goal, they decided to create a clan, the Clan of the Decaying Sun which prospered through the Tangled Wood from the Driftwood Drag to the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. Having seen all his clan and him had accomplished, Witty wondered if something new could motivate them to surpass again. Then, considering his best friend, Empire, great guardian leader of the Clan of the Dead Stag, he knew: A new life was waiting for them in the decaying Scarred Wasteland. Changing territory also means changing deity and nothing really went as expected… |
