NightBreeze is a descendant of the legendary Fading. Not that that name holds much power to anyone but her mother and a few old ones. Although her heritage is of little relevance to the majority of the clan, she still holds great respect within the clan. For the Shade favours NightBreeze as much as it does her mother, if not more. NightBreeze has truly become one with the Shade. Acting almost like a prophet NightBreeze tells her clan of the Shade's great power and strength and instructs them in worship and devotion. Other dragons view her with a kind of awe, wishing they were as blessed, but at the same time they fear her and try to keep out of her way. NightBreeze is incredibly unpredictable, she will do whatever she sees as right, no matter what the consequences. It isn't an uncommon scene for her to viciously assault clan members because they spoke slightly out of line or didn't live up to her strict standards.

Another of her quirks is to at random choosing hatchlings to go through the "ShadeRunner's test" in which she places hatchlings in almost unsurvivable conditions. For example, she is known to drop hatchlings too young to fly from tall cliffs. None have ever survived the ShadeRunner's test, though NightBreeze still insists that some passed and more eerily still, that some survived and are with them.

But her wild acts aren't limited to just that. It's her actions that impact the clan on a larger scale that dragons tend to worry about. In the worst of famines she might insist on sacrificing all the prey to the ShadeRunner, or she might send half of the warriors to collect a useless resource in the midst of war. Yet nothing is ever said against this. The Shade is the mightiest, who wants to challenge it? And one can't deny how quickly the famine seems to end or how easily the battle is won…

DarkSky is proud of her daughter and has mostly given up communication with the Shade. She lets the Shade speak through NightBreeze instead of herself. DarkSky deals with managing the clan, let NightBreeze remind the members of the Shade's might and justify the battles DarkSky leads them into.
Plus, if you were to ask DarkSky, no hatchlings were ever dropped off cliffs. She simply chooses to ignore the creepier side.
