Rugievit

Rugievit was always a little bit different than the other Hatchlings. He actually understood what happened and saw the slaughter that killed almost all Hatchlings his Clan and Clan Vangandr, the Clan they shared territory with. Despite the fact that he was just a few days old he understood what happened and never forgot it like some other dragons. Of course he couldn’t really compare himself with Tellus the seer of the Clan but like her he saw terrible things and was never able to forget them. Being intelligent was not always a good thing, it might seemed like a nice ability to recognize pretty much everything, how the wind sung in the trees, the hot sand felt under his claws and the dusty earth he breathed but it wasn’t. It haunted him in his dreams. After all the long nights Rugievit could still feel the claws on his cheek, how they ripped down his flesh and pierced his eye, stole from him the sight. He could remember how he ran away, how he survived until the battle was done, Condatis brought him back her claw in his neck. Even if they tried to help him forget and included him in their little game he was never able to let the past vanish or to play with them how they wanted him to. Rugievit would always do something wrong. There were so many unwritten rules, too many for him. Even if he would never make the same mistake twice there would be another one he would make because they never told him how. The thought it was a natural instinct, that he should know what was okay and right and not but how could he? Rugievit quickly stopped trying to make friends and sat down somewhere thinking about his problems. Sometimes he would hunt but he wasn’t really good at chasing down other animals. With the loss of one eye he couldn’t calculate distances anymore, or at least not good enough to keep himself out of danger. When he was young he thought about being a warrior but this dream of his he had to give up. Now he helped everywhere he could. Mainly he would protect nests and freshly hatched Hatchlings, would feed them and tell them the stories he got told. Tales about long gone centuries heroes and heroines, about love, war and destiny. While nurturing the young he also met his Mate, Neith, she would often bring food for him and his guarded ones. He fell fast in love with her wild nature, she was full of energy and loved him despite the little mistakes he made now and then. Though inside he still felt alone because he knew even she would never be able to understand him truly.

A Hand Ruled by Heartache

The Four of Cups: While his past weighs heavily on him, Rugievit has long been unable to tear his minds eye away from the tragedy he witnessed as a child. It plays over in his head, it colors his actions in the present day, but he has let it absorb him. His desire to be more open is fueled as much by his own lingering survivor’s guilt as anything. In some way he hopes to be forgiven for being alive.

Judgement: A decision is made. The necessity of hard choices and the hope for renewal. Maybe even absolution. He resolves himself to be open to someone. Maybe Neith, maybe another, but the choice is made all the same.

Three of Swords: I will admit I trend towards optimistic readings of the spread, and I enjoy the shadowscapes tarot because it is a fairly hopeful sort of deck. The three of swords however is unambiguously blunt in its tragedy. Heartbreak, betrayal, separation, and isolation. The gamble was a poor one. Whoever he shared his experiences with was not receptive, perhaps even angry. The one silver lining I might offer, is that changing his motive for sharing may lead to a different outcome. The Four of Cups implies a certain amount of selfishness and self absorption. A disregard for how whatever you might do affects others. Coming at this more honestly could possibly lead to a brighter result.
