irene's passions began in clockmaking. originally, her dream in life was to be the burrow arkhaeion's resident clocksmith- and she did accomplish that, but with it came a general engineering job, since the clan is relatively detached from the technological advancements of the rest of sornieth. irene was very happy with this, finding that her true passion was not just clocks, but engineering in general. she went on to study in the shifting expanse and bring her knowledge back to the clan (alongside her new mith companion, bruiser). as of late, though, irene's interests have become somewhat more... consuming. it began with normal technological ambition, which she shares with her best friend desquevre. both championed bringing mainland tech to the burrow and constructing a railway. however, irene's creative gusto quickly appears to have become disordered. she is consumed by her thoughts day in, day out. her talkativeness has faded and she only speaks during bursts of feverish energy, blurting out ideas for doomsday devices and massive monuments and writing notebooks full of incomprehensible thoughts. she studies the runes fervently, and they don't seem to help her in her struggles. nobody's sure what's going on with poor irene...

irene was found as a hatchling in the woods by a wilderness ranger. she was brought to the clan, where she was adopted by now-retired archivist riddle and his two then-teenaged daughters, kurki and blackmist. despite loving her family, irene chose to take a unique family name, gearloose, as she felt apart from them growing up. still, she remains close with kurki. irene is in her early 40s. |
