 Born to a clan of coatls in the Southern Icefields, Quartz was thought to be a bad omen due to his pale colors. From the moment he hatched, his clan shunned him. They barely spoke to him, and many did not even want to be close to him fearing that his presence alone would make them sick. It was not long before he was removed from the clan completely. The pale, rose-colored coatl had to learn quickly how to survive by himself in the frigid Icefields. Luckily, his pale skin helped him hide in snow drifts when Beastclan creatures lurked nearby and his serpentine body made it easy for him sneak quietly on the icy shores to snatch up fish to eat.

He never wanted to stray far from the territory of his birth clan though. They, not wanting him near them, fought him and tried to scare him away, but he persisted until they felt they had no choice but to force him out of the Southern Icefields completely. He ended up in the region of the Light flight where, after some wandering, he met Spinel. She had also been kicked out of her birth clan due to her pale colors. From the moment they met, it seemed clear that they were a match made by the deities themselves. They fell in love quickly and together found their way to the clan Sunshard where they now live happily with their own children whom they think are lovely with their own pale plumage.
