Leopold is the most analytical and driven of his siblings. His interest in the piano is less of a passion and more of an obsession. He studies every piece he wants to play until he can play it any way he wants and even improvise new sections, without messing up in any way. No one dares make the joke that he should study it until he can play it backwards, because he would take it as a good suggestion. When he is dragged away from his precious piano, it isn't long until until his fingers begin to practice on any surface on offer. His parents wonder if they pushed him too intensely, but when they realize they applied the same amount of pressure to him and his brother Ashcroft, with different results, they have to admit he just has one of those personalities. One would expect him to play with machine-like precision, but he rarely does. More often than not he plays with an almost angry flair. Some think it has to do with his obsessive nature, or perhaps is the result of an irritation with his inability to express other emotions through the music he plays. He does seem to think that the latter problem will be solved with more practice, when in reality it would be solved by experiencing more of life. He has a close and yet tempestuous relationship with his brother Ashcroft, who is also a musician, but is much more relaxed in his approach to practice and precision. Ashcroft is the one who most frequently drags Leopold away from the piano, trying to convince him to relax once in a while. Leopold is the one who most frequently accompanies his mother Baroness Georgette when she plays her violin, since his uncle Constantine can rarely visit the Court to play alongside her anymore. Leopold does relax a bit more when he accompanies his mother and is able to compliment her playing. |
