Always quiet, he sat off to the side while his brother played with the other hatchlings with his head cocked to one side and listening, watching, like their activity told him something that the other dragons couldn't detect. He spoke few words in his lessons, but those who instructed him felt his gaze as hot as the sun on their backs. He saw right through, and those who looked back felt he knew something they didn't.

No one was surprised when he vanished one night, as soon as he was old enough to take to the skies on his own--although, true to his breed he ran through the Starwood Strand rather than flying above it. In the Twisting Crescendo, he took to the skies on clumsy wings and caught what he had chased from his home.

Even if it was only a view, gazing over the whole expanse of Sornieth.
