The dragon Tallulah lost her own hatchlings in an earthquake long ago, but found new meaning in rescuing and befriending other dragons that were somehow separated from their flights. Her lair is a sanctuary where wanderers young and old are welcome to stay, however little or however long. For a long, long time, Tallulah wandered the Shattered Plains, alone. When other dragons crossed her path, she kept her head down and wouldn't look them in the eye or hear their words. Until one day, she happened upon a place that looked familiar... a place she'd once called home. The lair was long abandoned by the looks of it. She laid down on the ground and closed her eyes. A fitting end for a meaningless journey, she thought - and then, she slept. A while later, she was awoken by the scraping of stone and the snapping of brambles. Cautiously, she cracked an eye open - and saw, to her surprise, an odd-looking Mirror dragon clearing away the debris. "What... are... you... doing?" she asked, or rather whispered, her voice hoarse from disuse. These were the first words she'd spoken to any dragon in many, many months. The other dragon glanced her way briefly, then went back to what he was doing. Curious, Tallulah watched him. The sun dipped lower and lower in the sky, and tirelessly the lavender Mirror dragon worked. At some point, body moving as if on its own, Tallulah found herself joining him. They worked tirelessly until dusk fell and it became too dark to see. "Thank you," Tallulah said. Still, the other dragon said nothing. "What is your name?" The Mirror glanced at the sky, then towards the ground, then back at Tallulah, and blinked. Only then, she understood: he couldn't - or wouldn't - talk. "Shadefall?" she tried. The Mirror blinked again, slowly, then laid down on the ground and closed his eyes, a small but happy smile creeping on his lips. |
