Nia is supposedly the granddaughter of the Stormcatcher himself, and destined to rule over the Shifting Expanse one day. She thinks that the whole thing is stupid, and decided to leave her lightning clan to go explore the expanse, taking only her ceremonial spear with her. She worked with miners, excavating copper and coal from the many mines around the desert, learning more about the earth every day. Eventually she had become bored with this, and even more bored of her proclaimed followers who kept trying to do her work for her. She packed up her things and headed over to Dragonhome in order to learn more about the earth. While she wasn't outright hated in the many clans she tried to stay with, her gruff attitude and the random lightning strikes that occurred whenever she became mad, made most dragons rather wary of her. She left once again and began to make her way back towards her old home, resigned to her fate of eternally being the Stormcatchers granddaughter.

That was not to be, as before she reached the desert, this time going the opposite way and passing through the Wandering Contagion (which was nasty, by the way) and the Windswept Plateau (those thunderstorms were an accident!), she ended up making a pit stop in the Emberglow Hearth to study the volcanic soil. Her studies led her to a small agricultural clan that had utilized the volcanic ash to make life bloom in the Ashfall Waste. Despite her proclivity to causing storms, Mellona decided she would make a valuable asset in their continuing quest to optimize their soil. Kuraokami and Nia are basically sworn enemies, as her storm-creating prowess messes with his meteorological predictions. None of the clan members are bothered by the fact that she keeps to herself, or that she is technically royalty. The plants don't bow, so why should they? This attitude has convinced Nia to make her permanent home here, and her ability to cause thunderstorms helps make sure the plants stay watered. All in all, this no-nonsense Ridgeback is pleased to have finally found a clan where her passions are not only respected, but valued, even though Mellona gets very annoyed whenever she flies past yelling "GET BACK TO WORK!"
