THE DARK PRINCE

Starless is the second-generation leader of the Clan of Cold Floes. He was adopted by Nightwing, the original matriarch, and her second mate Requin. Starless had been a stowaway on Requin's ship, and the pair were very pleased with his cool, ambitious nature. Never taking pride in any of her own hatchlings, Nightwing chose Starless to inherit the throne. The timing was critical - for the same voyage that Starless arrived on was the voyage that brought the plague which shortly wiped out the entire clan, save for him - the disease affected children much less than adults, and when they all became violent because of the disease's effect, Starless hid away. Upon reaching adulthood, he took on the throne and the charge of rebuilding from scratch.

It was some thing that had been on the ship with him. Nightwing got sick first of course, her normal aggression taking a whole new level. As others took open wounds from her, they got sick too, and the sickness made them violent against each other. So Starless hid in one of the many tiny caves, tunneled into the ice walls of the lair, so none of the dragons could reach him. As they all got sicker, their flesh rotted. The stink only bothered Starless for a little while - it took a mere day to get used to. And soon... they were all gone. The fleshrot left them all exposed to the cold, and the icy winds they usually called home killed them. But Starless stayed hidden, for in the days that came, beasts came and scavenged the meat. It was something no hatchling should have to witness, but it was all too fitting a childhood for the heir of a clan that had always tended towards the dark side.

Starless crawled out of the den cautiously. The beasts had stopped coming, and the rot-smell only lingered now. There were a view dark streaks in the ice and snow, but they were fading with the harsh weather. It was eerily quiet. Starless padded down the hall to his mother's old den, her "throne room". Clouddancer pelts hung all over the walls and lay on the floor, making the den warm and comforting. Looking around, Starless blinked - he was sure that statue had moved? Ah, but then he remembered, it was his mother's familiar. It was still here, guarding the den. Starless approached it and watched until it turned towards him. They stared at each other, and then it bowed. This was his servant, because now it all belonged to him - Starless, heir of the Clan of Cold Floes... the Dark Prince.

Posistion: Clan Leader

Roles:
Starless oversees everything that goes on in his clan and takes part in the claws-on portion of training recruits and in hunting trips. Besides these, everything - including communication, scavenging, hoard keeping, recruiting, alliance and business dealings etc - is delegated to other members of the clan. A situation where Starless gets personally involved is a serious matter indeed.

Relationships:
Starless is mated to Oath. After Oath, he is closest to North, on account of their many hours around Sornieth training recruits together. However, he keeps most of his relationships with clan members (including North) cool and business-like, and as such does not have anyone he would call "friend" except, perhaps, his familiar.

Personal Items:

Starless hoards Clouddancer Pelts to line his den with, keeping it warm and creating a certain powerful, but unnerving atmosphere. In the case that every inch of wall and floor space in his den is covered, and he has a suitable pile for sleeping, he simply orders that his den be expanded.

These pendants are hoarded to provide Starless's den with lighting. Although at the height of summer light refracts down through the ice to light his den, it is otherwise quite dim, and Starless enjoys both the color of the light and the eerie craftmanship of the pendants.
