No one in the clan could give you a straight answer about where Gaunter had come from, perhaps none could remember, perhaps the spiral made it that way. If you asked Bacchus, he'd speak in a hushed tone of how the void eyes of the creature made his skin prickle; but their alliance was one that could not be broken. The spirit said little by day, though he was never absent. The clan had become accustomed to his unusual presence, no longer feeling eerie in his silence, or unnerved by his monotone voice.

Under the shadow of night, Gaunter would get up and leave the territory without a word, only eyeing newcomers of the clan until they got up to follow along. They were told the spiral would take them to their deity, to the lovely Flamecaller to whom they pledge their allegiance. They had been exalted and finished their training, it was time to don their armor and follow along the path away from the camp, following the escort until they were out of sight.

Gaunter would return alone, carting only a heavy satchel of treasure and word of the rankings in the war. The clan relied on the conflict between territories, when their gold would gain greater worth and they could buy bigger satchels of food and supplies to last their travels. Though every time the escort left with the newcomers trailing behind, the clan felt a sense of dread to cast off those who had spent even a little time within their clan, but it was a necessity.
