Nadir, champion.
“I will invent for you, meaningless words that you will understand. I will speak to you, of these lovers that we've seen twice, their hearts embracing each other. I will tell you the story of this king, who died of not being able to get to know you."

.... ..... Born with the gift of Sight, yet, never with the ability to see.

A curiosity, considering his lineage being pure, his eyes the richest hue of purple his family’s ever seen. Yet, despite this, he couldn’t see anything, beyond cryptic, colourful imagery before his optics; hallucinations, his family called them, until they ripened and matured, and they discovered they were predictions. While most families would covet such a gift, Nadir’s was disgusted; as the Clan too discovered this gift, rumours abounded of his impure heritage, that he was a bastard child: not fit to be heir, not only because he had the Sight, but because it was the wrong kind of sight.

His family was disgusted, disappointed, that their eldest son disgraced them. Though many attempts were made to kill the boy, he eventually managed to flee to neighboring Clans, constantly bouncing around, claiming a different heritage from his own. Many gladly took him in due to his blindness and him being a scrawny, weak youth: yet, he never found what felt like home until he found a Clan without the Earthshaker’s domain. It was not the clan itself, but rather, who he befriended within it.

It was a large Clan, which ran a gladiatorial ring of combat. A disgusting practice, and though Nadir berated it, it was never within the company of anyone within the Clan, for it was celebrated. It was not just a sport, but it was culture: it formed the foundations of the Clan itself. Therefore, when he found the only member who agreed with him, they quickly took to one another; a Skydancer from a Clan deep within Water territory, who was captured and brought within the Ring. After she had proven herself, she was brought in as an official member, and, the closer they became, he realized she, too, shared his Gift.

She trained him, and taught him what she knew: she taught him how to interpret what he saw, to read what it tried to tell him. She used her knowledge to give him the one thing he never had: the ability to see. It was this discovery that made their clanmates suspicious, and eventually discover their shared craft. She claimed his innocence, and therefore he was only enslaved, while she was executed for the entire Clan to bear witness to.

Though it was a short-lived relationship, Nadir found himself beset with misery, and most of all, with guilt. It was for this reasons his visions grew corrupted, and they became disturbing. Each of them depicted her in one way or another; whether it be her smile, a feather, the ring she left him: it was always her. He maimed himself; clawed out his own eyes, to no avail, only cementing this blindness. Upon discovery, they had to quickly patch him up, to cover his eyes, before thrusting him into the ring: so disfigured and disgusting was he, they couldn’t bear to let even the spectators see who sat and begged for this kind of bloodiness, this kind of gore. Perhaps this is why he strove to give them it; to give them more than they could stomach, to drive them away from this sport. He became, in effect, the greatest Gladiator the Clan had ever seen: from a weak, scrawny reject, to a true-born Gladiator; from nobility to taking down captured Emperors and worse.

He eventually led the rebellion that took down the entire Gladiatorial ring; destroying the very Clan that took away the only love he ever had. He only found his way to the Monastery with the assistance of Tulkas, who served as his only equal in strength, and who partook in the rebellion with him. He was welcomed with open arms, serving as a trainer and as a type of guard. And, despite the apothecaries and Priests offers to try and restore his sight to him, he always turned them down. Though he’d never say it, he didn’t care to see a world without her.

A true, lamentable curiosity.
