The moment Apis was born her parents knew something was very off about her. Her birth was hard, only one egg out of four had survived. When the tiny coatl hatched, parts of her skin began to flake off, revealing the deformed bones underneath. After that, goo began to gather around the rest of her feathers. Not long after, her mother got terribly sick and died. Reviled and feared, Apis was forced out into the world. Without her honeyed tongue and manipulative ways, her fate would have been far worse. No matter the situation, the charming coatl was able to sweet talk her way out of any problem. She made friends in every clan she passed by, but stayed for no longer than a week. She could survive any situation, charm any dragon, and manipulate the hardest heart into giving her whatever she wanted. This was to be her life, she decided. She was nothing more than a vagabond, a manipulative wanderer with no ability to settle down or keep the friends she made. No matter where she went, she would always be the outsider, accepted, and maybe even liked, but never part of the clan. It was after years of this nomadic lifestyle that she began to feel the pull that all coatls feel. The call towards their ancestral home: The Ashfall Waste. As she made her way towards the forges she had a hope that maybe, just maybe, this is where she would find her home. In discovering the Clan of Milk and Honey, she found a group of solitary farmers, with one goal, but no unity. These dragons were nice, but they were foolish and naive. They were vulnerable, isolated, and without any sort of leadership or structure. Apis decided to change all that. She became the official clan ambassador, forming ties with the other clans and the local beastclans. She traded their produce for materials and trinkets. Within the clan itself she established a chain of authority. Mellona would be in charge of animal husbandry, Samael would handle the agriculture, and Sanibel would take care of all the aquaponics. Mellona was also to be the head of the entire clan, with Bellus acting as her second. Apis shaped the Clan of Milk and Honey into what it is now, and in doing so she has found a family all her own. The Battle of Somnus Gap was everything Apis had nightmares about, her clan being torn apart, her friends dying, and all the things they had worked so hard to grow being destroyed. Still, despite everything, they survived. Mellona stepped into her role as the clan leader after the attack, guiding the clan and holding it together, while Apis worked to reorganize the work force in order to rebuild the clan as fast as possible. All the traveling dragons were called back to the clan, and even the artisans and scribes worked day and night fixing tents and repairing fences. In the brief moments she wasn't working, Apis began to see a shimmering Snapper roaming the fields, with the plants springing to life wherever her feet touched the ground. After talking with the seers, they discovered that this Snapper was actually a Saint sent from the Gladekeeper to help their clan. Apis shared the news with the rest of the clan, declaring this Snapper to be the Patron Saint of their clan. Most of the clan doesn't really "worship" this saint, but there is no denying her existence. Most of the farmhands catch glimpses of her during the day, and no one can deny the miraculous growth of their crops. Apis has created a small shrine to the Saint, and most of the farmers leave small offerings of fresh vegetables for the Snapper. They are always gone the next morning. Lavaridge is a little nervous about the clan worshiping a deity outside of the main eleven, but she tolerates the shrine for now. |
