Biography

The wrath of the ocean and the power of the storms were at his clawtips. Lightning crashes and thunder rumbles at the beat of his wings. Impressive and dark as a typhoon.

And yet, Aegaeon wasn't always this way.

Not too long ago, Aegaeon was just a normal dragon. Regular in any sense of the word. Simple, dutiful to his clan, he wasn't the strongest, nor the weakest. Anyone would have said that Aegaeon - then known as Sealion - was the benchmark of average. He was the most average, most median dragon in the clan, the one everyone set their midpoint to.

Because of his averageness, he was often sent out to hunt, gather, fish, or whatever the clan needed, usually with another, younger dragon. Through Sealion's guidance, the clan could find out whether the dragons who went with him were above or below average.

It just so happened that Sealion and two other Mirrors were sent out to fish in the depths of the Sea of a Thousand currents, when they happened to stumble across none other than the Stormcatcher.

The Deity of Lightning was fighting for dominance over the Tidelord's waters, swarmed by the exalted warriors of the Tidelord's domain. Overwhelmed by the mere presence of the Stormcatcher, the exalted were no match.

The two accompanying Sealion fled almost instantly. Sealion, however, had a job to do, and he wasn't about to let some force of nature like the God of Storms and Electricity stop him from fishing.

It was then that Sealion witnessed what hadn't been seen in many, many centuries - the Tidelord himself rising from the depths of the Spiral Keep to confront the Stormcatcher and defend his domain. The battle was spectacular, and otherworldly - it was near impossible to document or even recall.

Sealion floated in the ocean, in complete awe of what he saw. These two were the absolutely opposite of himself - he was the embodiment of average, while the deities were the pinnacle of existence. But as he floated on the currents, watching the two fight for dominion over one another, his life was about to change.

If there's one thing you should never do, its stand near two literal gods fighting. And as the Stormcatcher rears his mantis-like talons, and lets loose a blinding flash of lightning that would scorch the very earth and boil the oceans, Sealion would discover why.

The bolt of pure energy didn't even hit him directly. It struck the waters miles from where he was floating, but the sheer power behind the magic was potent enough to reach him. A single zap to the middle of his forehead, and Sealion was dead, his body now sinking to the depths of the ocean.

The sudden loss of life resonated through the Tidelord and the Stormcatcher. Too embroiled in their conflict, they hadn't even noticed the speck of a Mirror that had been close by. But his death snapped their attention back to the world around them.

Remorseful and ashamed at their mistreatment of the world and the beings they created to inhabit it, they took this sudden, innocent life as a sign, a sign that the gods themselves should never participate in dominance directly. And to honour the sign that had shown them this, they poured a bit of their magic into the poor, sinking body of the Mirror they had killed.

Aegaeon never fully forgave the gods that day. He had a simple life, and a simple home, he was the perfect median of the clan.

Now, revived by the power of two gods, he was exceptional, he was grand, he was powerful and graceful and full of energy.

But he never asked for this. And he'll never want this power.
