UFTAASAH
Exalt Rescue

Uft (feather) Aas (quick) Ah (hunter) -Quick feather-hunter

Rave had a reputation in the Glass Shatter Clan for rescuing young hatchlings that were destined for exaltation. She was in charge of escorting exalt fodder from the auction house to the serve their deity, but sometimes she would find a young dragon that simply wasn't ready to leave their home in Sornieth to serve the Icewarden. Uftaasah was not a hatchling. He wasn't even considered young anymore. His parents hadn't hatched him for the purpose of exalting. He didn't have parents at all. Yet, here he was, being purchased by Rave at the dreaded fodder price. Dragons sold by their clans at rock bottom prices knew they would be serving the new clan's deity. It was the way of the world.

Uftaasah understood this and quietly accepted that he would be leaving with this new nocturne to serve the Icewarden. Rave explained to him that he would be joining their team in the coliseum to train before exaltation. He nodded quietly. Their trip to the Glass Shatter Clan was mostly in silence, and Rave began to notice that Uftaasah was ducking his head and when she looked at him he would always close his eyes or turn from her. "Why do you hide your eyes from me?" Uftaasah sighed. He had nothing to lose. He would be a permanent fixture of the ice realm soon enough. Why not tell her?

He looked up at her with statically charged, brilliantly blue electric eyes. His eyes were piercing against the brown eyeliner of his skin. He told her the reason he wouldn't let other dragons see his eyes, the reason he had been discarded by his previous clan. It was his eyes. He was deeply ashamed of them. He was born from the pure energy of the Shifting Expanse. He was a lightning dragon. He should be industrious, he should be an engineer. His body should be made up of beautiful aqua and grey tones. But here he was, a hunter with no interest in working electricity, made up of clashing colors that could never make the Stormcatcher proud. He was a disgrace as a lightning representative. It was a shame he had carried with him his entire life. To be the laughing stock of the lightning region was a heavy burden that he was happy to be rid of. If he was exalted, no one would have to look at his hideous eyes again.

Rave stopped in her tracks. Her heart broke for him. He had lived his entire life thinking he was worthless because he didn't fit a certain mold. He had dismissed his talents as a skilled, swift hunter. He couldn't see the beauty of the sparkling eyes, of the rich colors of his skin and wings. He had been alive, but he was never living. Uftaasah noticed that Rave had stopped and asked her what was wrong. She shook her head. "I can't let you be exalted." Uftaasah began to protest. He was looking forward to this. Looking forward to the relief of isolation. "Uftaasah, my friend, you've never been given a chance at life. You aren't hideous, you don't have to be the ideal representative of a lightning dragon. It's okay to just be.. you." He mulled over the words. No one had ever spoken to him like this before. No one had ever told him he was anything other than embarrassing, a hideous disgrace. How could he believe her? How could he trust her?

"I'm going to find you a home. This is your second chance at life. Don't waste it trying to be something you're not." Rave's words were final. He didn't have a choice. He knew not to get his hopes up, new homes had disappointed him before. But, she seemed so sure. Maybe this time, it was okay to be hopeful. Maybe this time, he would find a home where he belonged.

A second chance...
Rave kept her word to Uftaasah. She had found him a new home. A clan within the Lightweaver's domain. He was a bit shocked at first, but was happy. A few days later, a pair of Faes came to visit. Both were no bigger than his head. The smaller of the introduced herself as Minya, leader of the clan he would be joining. She was chipper and friendly, a joy to be around. The other Fae was Obsidian, he was the leader of the clan's scouts. It was strange listening to the two Faes speak. Minya moved her crest a lot, and the usual monotone of Faes didn't seem to apply to her. Obsidian was the complete opposite of his mate and clan leader.
"I am happy that you are giving Uffaatash a home," Rave told them. Minya smiled widely and Obsidian gave a curt nod.
"It's the least we could do!" Minya said. "We were also in need of a hunter."

Uftaa followed the two Faes back to the domain of the Light. He noticed how Obsidian pulled his hood further over his dark colored eyes. A Shadow born living in the Light? It was strange to the dark colored Nocturne, but it was nice. He was taken aback by the size of the lair, and the variety of dragons and flights. A pair of Spirals zipped past him, a swirl of aqua and grey. An orange Spiral came over, his pink eyes standing out against his clashing colors.
"You're still here, Voly?" Minya asked, a bit shocked to see he was still in the lair.
"I got word that we had a new dragon joining us," he said, his pink eyes drifting to Uftaasah for a second. "Mika and Nida also talked me into staying for the day." As if on que, on brown tiger scaled Spiral came over. Her golden eyes stood out against the browns and blues that danced across her scales.
"Yeah, because we never see you," she said, a mischievous grin dancing across maw. Uftaa was lost for words at her beauty. Mika gave Uftaasah a smile. "I lead hunting parties," she told him.
"He'll be joining you," Minya said, her crests going up in happiness. Mika looked him over.
"Some time in the Coli should do. us good," she commented. During his training, Mika and him were never very far apart. Nida was the first to notice how their relationship was a lot closer than that of a mentor and pupil.

Three months of being together, and they laid a nest together. They currently are sitting on a nest of two eggs, and are excited to be parents.

A family
Uftah and Aaska are the spitting images of their parents. Uftaa is very proud of both of them, and is doing his best to be a good father, but he never really got to learn how to do that from parents, not having any of his own. Mika does a good majority of the parenting, but Uftaa helps where and when he can.
Both of them are already deft hunters, taking after their parents whole heartedly.
