She couldn't tell what it still was that kept her in this cursed city.

Perhaps she still had that foolish hope, that one day either of her missing daughters would turn up - dead, most likely, but at least Selene could be certain of their fates then. Or maybe she knew that she could never find peace until she found out what happened to either of them.

If it hadn't been for her mate Rugar, she most likely would've given up long ago, and let the uncertainty eat away at her without so much as trying to solve the case.

What she knew was still too little, but it was more than nothing. Her firstborn Illyde had gone missing when they were still living near the Cloudscrape Crags, with the only witness being a small hatchling of a neighboring clan, frightened out of his mind from what he saw.

He claimed that a shadow monster had eaten Illyde, and that she'd grown as large as a mountain afterwards, then left in the direction of Icewarden's fortress. Though his imagination had clearly colored his memories of what he saw, Selene felt hesitant to dismiss his testimony completely.
