This might be your last hope...

Hijnx's head snapped back and forth, her eyes narrowing as she took careful steps through the clans lair. The Mirror tried her best to not make a sound. It would be best if no one saw her tonight.

-The way is clear, hurry!-

The voice of her mate was urgent, but only she could hear him, thanks to some spell that Unicorn had cast upon her and Jinx. She quickened her pace, until she was aloft, gliding over the lands claimed by various clans.

Hurry...hurry...hurry....

The words were a mantra. They gave her strength, but she was tired. So tired.

How many times had she done this, how many times would she do this again?

It didn't matter. It was worth it.

She flew until her wings ached, and her breath was short, but there in the distance, was the dragon she sought.

Fangthane was massive and intimidating. But he had Batu's trust, though he betrayed it every time they met.

“Greetings Lifebringer” he grumbled, his voice rich, terrifying. He said nothing more, merely spread his wings wide, revealing the well made but worn baskets secured under the tattered cloth he wore.

She put her precious cargo into his keeping. One at a time. With careful movements, and a final nuzzle goodbye. She hoped they would be free. She hoped they would find something resembling happiness. She hoped, with all her heart that at least one might remember this kindness, likely the only one they ever experienced in their short lives. Perhaps...she might hear from one...oneday...

“Keep them safe.” She pleaded, turning to rush back to the clan. Fleeing, unable to look back.

Fangthane brought his precious cargo to the far reaches of the Southern Ice Field. He had left the other hatchlings with other clans desiring new warriors to patrol their borders. However, one small hatchling remained. All other clans turned him away as they believed he was too small to even be a scout.

Fangthane flew far inside the icy borders of the Southern Icefield was a clan eagerly awaiting the small hatchling. Finally, he arrived at his destination.

A crowd of murmuring dragons had gathered in excitement to view the new addition. Scath, the clan founder, walked out to meet Fangthane.

"Greetings, Vitulus Clan," Fangthanes voice rumbled through the crowd as he landed. A small, dark hatchling peered over the basket before sneezing and hitting the other side of the basket.

After some coaxing, the small dragon finally clambered out of the basket. With another nod, Fangthane took to the skies once more.

For two days, Sparky was showered in gifts and treats. However, on the third day, a terrible snow storm hit the clan. Every adult dragon took turns watching the hatchling, beseaching the little one to eat and drink. The little hatchling's health began to decline dramatically regardless of what the clan healer did.

As the temperature dropped, Sparky began to shiver uncontrollably. As he glanced up at the strangers protecting him, he whispered "I'm really cold," in a raspy voice before coughing once again.

Desperate, the clan called healers from all corners of Sornieth. Eventually, a healer from the Viridian Labyrinth determined that the small hatchling contracted Pnemonia in his travels and the cold weather magnified the sickness. The hatchling was pronounced deathly ill.

On the third day of the storm, the sun broke through the clouds. A gentle breeze came through the clan as Aurak, the guide of the afterlife, slowly walked through and parted the sea of concerned dragons. The area around the little hatchling's body had an aura of sunlight around it which melted the snow and new spring grass and beautiful flowers sprouted.

As the breeze touched Sparky, his labored breathing became easier and as his eyes closed, he took his last breath. Another breeze came through gently lifting Sparky's soul and it flew with Aurak into the heavens.
"Please find a better place than this hellish life..."
