Healer - The Legacy

JOB DESCRIPTION

This drake is the healer of the clan and is probably one of the most important pieces of Z'Arduani's intricately-functioning system. His job includes mixing herbs, bottling medications, churning salves, and caring for ill or injured patients.

PERSONALITY

Altruistic and extroverted in nature, Cordyline often seeks the company of others and is almost always seen quietly chatting amongst a group. He is highly opinionated, which boosted his relationship with Daskess upon his first arrival into the clan. The two males visit with each other less often due to their extensive fields of work, but neither of them are opposed to the intensity of their occupations.

PHYSIQUE

Caused by recessive dwarfism on his father's side, Cordyline's elfin wings are rather short and thinly stretched across his bone structure, giving them the appearance of being too underdeveloped to fly. This frailty is cancelled out, though, by the illustrious durability of the Imperial genes on his mother's side. Also passed down from his mother is the ability to secrete a liquid-esque substance from his wings that serves as a mixing agent in his healing salves. This secretion can cause nausea in large doses and is potentially dangerous for Faes if overdosed, but is non-lethal. His claws are dull and neatly trimmed to avoid ripping delicate leaves and petals upon handling them.

BIOGRAPHY

Cordyline was born to a long, long line of apothecaries and herbalists, the legacy of a great clan at the base of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. This legacy had dragons established all across Sornieth, spreading their posterity to every domain. Dragons from every region of the world sent in applications to receive one of these professional healers, and the Mother at the head of each generation was to be fertile and prosperous in order to provide. Cordyline alone had 17 siblings, all named after benevolent herbs and trained from the day they were hatched to help and heal others. His relationship with his parents was not a particularly loving one, for his mother was his mentor and teacher in the ways of healing rather than a nurturer of his growth. He was trained well into young adulthood, honing and mastering his skills to the best of his abilities in order to uphold the honor of his line.

When the time came for him and his siblings to be assigned their workplace, it was obvious that Cordyline was a little less than enthusiastic to be sent to the Plague region. He himself was intimidated by the acute, foreign sickness that blanketed the domain, for if he could not keep himself healthy and immune to the diseases, how could he be expected to keep the others healthy as well? His work was definitely cut out for him in this region, and he wasn't sure that he was prepared to take on the responsibility held with it.

Upon first arriving to the Z'Arduani, the young drake found that most of the wounds and illnesses he was hired to treat were battle wounds, for the clan was highly militaristic and violent. In some cases, wounds would become infected before the injured dragon had even made it back to the lair due to the lingering viruses that hung in the humid air. Between creating healing concoctions and tending to these scarred dragons, Cordyline often had to work for days and nights on end before finally allowing himself a few minutes of rest. It was exhausting, but this was what he was raised to do. He worked like clockwork, his knowledge of Plague-borne diseases growing with the size of his pearl every day.

After the usurpation of the tyrannical Wildclaw Alphas, the clan became much more laid back and easier to handle for Cordyline. Dragons no longer sought battle every day, nor did they crawl into Cordyline's lair reeking with infection as they had before. He could work reasonable days perfecting his salves and medications, and sleep healthy amounts each night. He even could take the time to strengthen his relationship with his best friend within the clan, Daskess.

On nights when Daskess is watching over the Hoard, Cordyline will occasionally sit alongside him and chat quietly with the drake, talking gently and just loudly enough to keep his friend alert and awake. They have shared everything with each other, all their struggles and all their troubles along with all of their victories and happiness. Despite his chatty and extroverted nature, Cordyline truly believes that without Daskess at his side, he would be one of the most distraught dragons that Sornieth has ever witnessed. His friend keeps him sane, supports him through his lowest experiences, and treats him more like a loving family member than anyone in his extensive family ever had.
