Glorin, although an Earth dragon at heart, retains many characteristics from her Nature colony's upbringing. She loves all living things, especially birds, and loves the ambience of a forest, often traveling to the Everbloom Gardens to enjoy it. However, she is bound to her home like the Earthshaker himself to the Pillar of the World, and so returns back to her clan quickly. When she is home, she treats her clanmates not with the brisk force of a leader, but the gentle kindness that she'd been given herself when she was a child.

Along with enjoying birds, flowers, and the like, Glorin has a very, very soft spot for hatchlings. It only takes some wide, round eyes for the strong, composed clan leader to cave to their any demand, and other clan members will have to whisk away the young ones before Glorin spoils them rotten. This motherly nature extends to everyone, really; Glorin is fierce and protective over her whole clan.

As a younger leader, Glorin was prone to speaking on impulse and acting before thinking, especially in response to perceived threats. Over time, her stubborn disposition has mellowed out, though she will not hesitate to act immediately and firmly when the situation calls.

Outside of her clan, the leader is regal and majestic, holding herself with dignity. She is welcoming to any who wish to join the clan, though has a watchful eye on them for the first month or so, ordering them away if they harass her other clanmates.

One way to describe Glorin's role as leader is "making sure everything runs smoothly." As the clan grows, this has become both harder (more dragons) and, in some ways, easier (more dragons to help). Though various responsibilities are delegated to various clanmates, Glorin is the go-to figure whenever there's a crisis; if you don't know who to go to, the answer is her.

As such, on days she stays at home, she usually keeps to a well-worn routine so that her clanmates can easily seek her out if needed. But due to the ever-changing nature of clan life, no two days are ever the same. Her tasks are many and varied, from mediating inter-clan conflicts to overlooking new construction projects.

When she travels (which is often; her childhood wanderlust has never really gone away), she keeps an eye out for those who could use a home, the wandering and the lost. She keeps a particularly watchful eye for hatchlings in bad situations and has been responsible for bringing home many young dragons who would have otherwise ended up sold, exploited, or prematurely exalted. Under the care of Clan Oristos, these youths have the space to discover themselves and form their identities. Some will still ultimately leave to serve deities, some will go off on their next great adventure, and a few will stay with the clan—but Glorin has given them the space to truly choose the path they desire, rather than following the path someone else chose for them.

Glorin works to make the clan a place that's good for dragons like to stay, for as long or as little as suits their needs.

RELATIONSHIPS*********
18784536.png
Ripple
| Mate

*********
Glorin harbors deep, time-burnished affection and appreciation for Ripple. She loves him as she loves the earth itself for being steady and constant. Their bond frequently manifests in the exchange of quips and banter, which they both thoroughly enjoy.
19824899.png
Falcon
| Son

*********
She is immensely proud of her son. Though Glorin takes care not to make him feel trapped, she is quietly pleased that he's chosen to stay in her clan. They don't spend much time together—Falcon is a lone wolf—but enjoy each other's company when they do.
22381045.png
Byo
| Daughter

*********
She is also immensely proud of her daughter. Byo's (mis)adventures and generally reckless nature will never not worry Glorin, but over time, she's grown to trust in her daughter's ability to handle herself, and the two get along very well.
14006484.png
Abraxas
| Friend

*********
Abraxas is an old, old friend, a founding member of the clan. Glorin considers him one of her most trusted clanmates and confidants; she almost always seeks his opinion on clan-related matters, and he would be her first choice to stand in as leader if she is incapacitated.
19111193.png
Cybc
| Friend

*********
Cybc is another old friend who has supported Glorin through the worst times in her life (and she hers). They have an easy, comfortable familiarity with each other. Glorin always notices and checks in when Cybc's been locked away in the library for too long.

How an Earth egg found its way into the Everbloom Gardens, no one knew. But there it was: an already half-cracked shell with a feisty little hatchling waiting to come out. The dragons who discovered it brought the hatching egg to a colony of nurturing Faes. Here, Glorin grew up loved and safe from the dangers of the world. Like any hatchling, she'd get scrapes, bruises, and broken bones, but her life was never threatened. She was naïve, fearless, friendly to all, and a little too adventurous for her own good. So it didn't surprise anyone when a restless young Glorin set off on her own with nothing but a small sack of possessions, determined to journey to the homeland she'd never known.

Glorin traveled across the remainder of the Viridian Labyrinth, befriending several birds along the way, some of which are still her companions to this day. Her first destination was the Pillar of the World, where she learned the history of the flights and the Shade; more importantly, however, she learned about life belonging to the Earth flight. She feasted on land snails and dragonflies, and she listened with wide eyes to the tales of Rockbreaker's Ceremonies of the past. Armed with knowledge, she embraced her roots and chose to pledge her allegiance to the Earthshaker.

She next traveled to the Shattered Plains, then Greatwyrm's Breach, then finally Cairnestone Rest; she had many adventures, immortalized in the letters she occasionally sent to her childhood colony. But she'd grown weary. It was hard to belong to a place when she knew she'd move on to the next in a day. She felt the ache of wanting to settle, to put down roots, to make a home in Dragonhome.

Glorin found a cliff with a small gap in it, barely enough to curl up in, and spent days upon days in the heat digging through the rough soil to create a small cave for herself. Her skin grew tough, her muscles strong; she did not know magic well, and so relied on physical work, her body growing familiar with the earth.

It was a good life from then; she never went hungry, and she had a place to sleep at night. Her life fell into simple routine.

But, having lived in a huge colony in the lively forests of the Nature flight, she felt loneliness quickly creeping into her heart.

One day, Glorin left to go find herself some food. When she returned, she found a Guardian waiting for her in the cave, which seemed to have expanded since she last saw it. The Guardian's claws were caked with dirt.

Warily, the Fae approached. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice monotone, but her crest fluttering in an array of emotions: wariness, hostility.

The Guardian introduced himself as Moonstrike. He told her how impressed he was with the little cave. He told her he thought she would make an excellent clan leader. Glorin had yearned to fill her silent home with companionship for so long that she agreed immediately, not once noticing the way Moonstrike's smile never made it to his eyes.

Looking back at it, she doesn't think that it was a mistake, making a clan. Her mistake was making a clan with him.

It started out fine. Glorin set off every day in search of recruits and resources for her to-be clan, while Moonstrike scavenged and expanded the cave under the cliff until it was worthy of being called a lair. It didn't take long before Glorin found two young Imperials, Junga and Demon. They cowered behind a stone while the Fae confronted their "caretaker," who seemed uninterested in the hatchlings except for the treasure they'd get him. She paid him for the two hungry children and brought them to the lair.

The tiny clan grew from there. A few more Imperials, though wary of being close to others that were their own species, moved in: Abraxas, Cybc, and Spec. The five dragons all played a part in the young clan. They grew, and with them, their home grew.

One day, Moonstrike brought back three eggs. He claimed to have found them together in an abandoned nest, close to rotting but not quite, and pleaded for Glorin to help him care for them. Glorin agreed without hesitation; she'd always had a weak spot for hatchlings. The eggs hatched into three little Guardians that shared their adoptive father's genes. Moonstrike could very well have been their biological father, but Glorin didn't question him, and raised them like any mother would. She considered them their children, and still does: they will always be her first.

Clash, Shama, Cranberry. The elder two idolized their father, while the youngest followed her mother around everywhere. Cranberry and Glorin were often alone together, as Moonstrike—with Clash and Shama in tow—seemed to wander further from the lair each day. She supposed that he was showing them the domain of the Earth flight, but she did not do the same for Cranberry. She was too young, too fragile.

Later, when there was a shortage of food, almost the entire clan left to hunt; the remainder slumbered in the lair to preserve their strength. When Glorin returned, she was met with a horrifyingly empty cave.

As it turned out, her youngest child was hiding behind a boulder. She trembled as she told her mother the story: how Moonstrike had suddenly said confusing things about the Earthshaker being his charge, how he'd convinced Clash, Shama, and even Demon to come along with him to exalt themselves into the service of their deity. How he'd tried to bring Cranberry along, but she'd run and hid.

Distraught, Glorin left Cranberry in the care of Abraxas and Cybc and left to find her children before it was too late. She searched until she had covered the entire Shattered Plains, only to return to even worse news: her last daughter was gone. Her caretakers had been attacked, wounded, and knocked unconscious by vicious dragons; by the time they'd awakened, Cranberry was gone, presumably stolen to be exalted or sold. Cybc had to restrain the grief-crazed leader by force to keep her from flying out into the night in a hopeless search, and the kindhearted Imperial was the one that helped Glorin recover in the following months. (Later, the roles would be reversed, and it would be Glorin's turn to comfort her friend.)

It was a hardened Fae that emerged from her shell of pain, and she launched herself into the position of leader with renewed vigor. She became a mother to all of her clan, nurturing, protecting, comforting them best as she could. But she did not trust outsiders. She'd trusted one once before, and where had that left her?

Her road to long-term recovery came in the form of a show-offy, wing-flashing Fae. One early morning, Glorin was perched on the cliff under which her clanmates were sleeping soundly. She had been watching the sun slowly rise when a dark shape glided towards her.

"Heeeyy," he'd greeted her, swooping down past her and hovering back up again. Unimpressed, Glorin eyed the stranger with a half-bored expression. He responded to her silence with a sarcastically charming sort of grin and a mock reprimand: "Gosh, rude of you." (It's a joke among Faes, too often labeled as rude by less monotonous species.)

"Annoying of you," she said in reply. The other Fae fluttered down next to her, his crest smooth as if he wasn't at all worried about deciding to sit next to a stranger—one who'd just called him annoying and looked as if she were about to claw him, no less.

"Soo, what's a pretty lady like you doing up here at awful o'clock in the morning?" he asked, nudging her with his wing. He seemed a nuisance, not a threat—she could overpower him easily—her crest rose in warning nonetheless.

"As clean leader, it's my responsibility to keep watch over my dragons."

"A clan," he said with thoughtful interest. "I could help you with that. I've got what they call street smarts, y'know."

Glorin didn't know what a street was, nor did she care, but she found herself answering him anyways, inviting him to show her.

He took it as a dare. They exchanged names—his was Ripple—and he offered her a flight around the Shattered Plains, coaxing her, telling her that the clan needed to be independent. So she went with him, following some inexplicable urge inside her that told her it was the right move, and they spoke with each other.

Despite his first impression, it turned out that Ripple could be serious. He gave her good advice, from how to delegate responsibility (which she took rather grudgingly) to where you could find the most abundant insects. He was intelligent, and she found that she enjoyed talking to him... at least, when he wasn't attempting to flirt with her.

When they reached the cliff once more, Glorin sped up and landed alone, expecting him to leave. But he did not, settling back down beside her with the words: "I think I'll stay a while, see what it's like. If you'll have me."

And he stayed a while. He stayed for even longer, until he requested to join the clan for good. By then, Glorin had trusted him completely, and it didn't take long after that for him—the earnest Fae behind that jaunty exterior—to win her over.

This was the beginning of the beginning. Things really do get better, and this was no exception for Glorin.
