Everyone wondered what a child was doing mulling about the complex. Even those without parents often have guardians when they're not of age. Damian had none, and he liked it that way.

However, living alone as a kid is hard. Cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner got old after a while, and the smell of pizza down the hall was way too tempting to ignore.

He was half-way through picking the lock when a giant man answered the door and offered some of his lunch. It was the best pizza Damian had ever had, because after weeks of following the smells down the hall, he gained access to a full kitchen, and a family.
