Biography

Corazon

How do I decide what the right thing to do it? Why, I followed my heart of course.

Corazon's name means heart, and it's one she strives to live up to. Although many Plague dragons live by the law of survival of the fittest, Corazon believes that cooperation, not competition, is what best helps them all to thrive. Although it was not a view that was particularly admired within the Scarred Wasteland where she was born, she knew that somewhere out there, there was a clan who would understand her feelings. Nocti's clan, founded by the tundra on ideals of friendship and acceptance, has been a perfect fit for her ever since she joined. Corazon admires their leader greatly, for her idealism, optimism, and compassion for almost everyone she meets, and makes it her goal to imitate it.

Corazon is a very intuitive and empathetic dragon. Nocti, her role model, often acts as an adviser and sympathetic ear to the dragons of the clan, but she also often travels, as she brings communications back and forth from the clan to the Windsinger. Corazon does her best to step into the role when Nocti is gone, not as a leader which she leaves in Cheyanne and Chrono's capable claws, but as a friendly, sympathetic listener and counselor. She has a warm and open air that makes others want to open up to her, and her deep sense of compassion makes her especially adept at untangling fights and disagreements.

Although her gentle demeanor makes most other dragons think that Corazon is probably always this peaceful, she is actually a skilled fighter. It's one of the few parts of her Plague heritage that she really retains, having been trained as a warrior by necessity in her dangerous homeland. She would rather seek a peaceful solution, and will attempt to negotiate by diplomacy first to prevent a fight from breaking out. However, if she has to fight to keep her clan or others safe, she won't flinch or back down. She desires peace, but she won't allow those who are helpless or innocent to be preyed upon while she sits by. When the battle is over, she seeks out those who are injured and ensures that they're cared for, even if they were fighting against her. She believes that a show of compassion, not force, is the best way to inspire peace and camaraderie in even those who were once enemies.

Her habit of tending to those wounded in battle applies even to monsters and wild beasts. When she finds injured familiars, whether from a fight with a dragon or simply natural injuries, she always takes them in and nurses them back to health. It's often a thankless job, when the wild familiars don't have any trust or affection for dragons, and don't have the intelligence to understand that healing sometimes hurts, lash out or struggle against her efforts, and are gone as soon as they can be healed and released. However, she doesn't do it for fawning thankfulness, but for the sake of having helped something that was hurting. She is responsible for a number of the clan's present familiars, the ones who tamed under her care and stayed even after they could have gone. There are a few, battle scarred and still wary, who didn't trust any dragons until her gentle care won them over.

Corazon is mates with MountainValley, the clan's sentinel. Although he is often absent, standing guard the borders of the clan's territory for any signs of danger, their reunions are happy ones. MountainValley was one of her rescued dragons, in fact. She found him, clearly having dragged himself away from a battle, wounded and barely hanging on to life. Of course she couldn't just leave him there, although it was quite a task to get the massive imperial back to the lair. She had to call several of her clanmates to help make and carry a stretcher, and regretfully abandon what armor he still wore, as it weighed him down too much. Once they brought him back to the lair, she took care of him with the same care and gentleness by which she had nursed injured familiars.

MountainValley healed, but it soon became clear that the nasty head wound he had sustained had left him with a case of amnesia. He could remember very little of what he had done or who he had been before he'd woken up in their lair. Corazon told him all they knew about how he had come here, and the signs of the battlefield that his tracks had led back to. She even went and retrieved all of his abandoned armor, hoping it might have some device or mark on it that would remind him of his past. However, nothing seemed to bring it up, and sometimes he even seemed glad to leave it that way. Instead, he asked her to tell him about the lair she lived in, her clanmates and the region. Corazon was happy to do so. MountainValley seemed particularly attached to her, and grateful for her role in bringing him back to health.

The two of them spent quite a bit of time together. MountainValley was in the process of repairing his returned armor, smoothing out dents, and reattaching bits that had broken and hung loose, and she rather enjoyed watching him. It was a slow, deliberate process, and the combination of focus and relaxation that overtook him during it fascinated her. She couldn't deny, there was something attractive about watching how deftly he worked. He, in turn, liked to watch her when she went about caring for her injured familiars. To her amusement, the claws that were so deft when he worked with metal turned clumsy and uncertain when it came to winding a bandage or measuring out a dosage of medicine, so he was barred from doing so. But he helped her to carry supplies, to bring them food and water, and even formed a bond with a grumpy warcat, one with battle scars much like his.

Although the two of them had grown closer and closer, Corazon could see that MountainValley was holding something back. Although he clearly loved the clan, he kept talking as though planned, no, as though he would have to leave. And although she could see the way he looked at her when he thought she couldn't see, he seemed afraid to let himself act on those feelings. Whatever he was afraid of, she wanted to show him that it didn't bother her, and that she wanted them to face it together. She had always believed in following the direction of her heart, and now it pointed towards him. So, seeing no reason to keep secrets or complicate things, she simply confessed her feelings for him, telling him how she felt and that she hoped he returned her feelings, and would stay with the clan, and her. As she had hoped, the reassurance was all he needed to find it in him to confess his own feelings. So although he does leave, donning his repaired armor and taking up his position as clan's sentinel, it's to her that he always comes back.
