Lux

The Beginning

She awoke with a start, jerking the life as she realized she was not in fact dead. She could remember that she had been travelling to the outer edge of the Arcane territory to deliver one of her fathers world renowned puzzle-boxes to a reclusive customer. But there came no recollection of the place she was trapped in now.

The space was cold, with vaulted ceilings made of some sort of metal. But she could remember awaking earlier, weak and unable to move. Then, she had not gotten a good look around. There had been a bright light blinding her vision. Whatever light had been there earlier was gone now. She didn't know what to think of this strange place.

Lifting herself brought aches she never knew she could get, specifically around the base of her skull. She ruffled her feathers, assessing herself for any other wounds. During her preening, she caught a familiar whiff of burning metal. Behind her a mechanical whirling came. She turned, tucking in her dark wings.

There was a tiny fae approaching her. She knew she should be scared, but somehow she wasn't. In this strange, cold place, with a mysterious dragon coming towards her, she felt no fear. The fae fluttered close enough to see clearly. The yellow circuits on her shimmering white skin looked like inlayed gold, almost pulsing with an unseen energy.

"Immisceo..." Came a voice which was no more feminine than it was masculine. Somehow, without their mouth moving, Immisceo knew it was coming from the fae in front of her. Immisceo cocked her head to the side, watching the fae closer as she fluttered to the ground.

"You've been lost for some time, haven't you?" Said the voice within her mind. Immisceo stared hard at the fae. Those words were true. She had been lost, physically in this place and mentally as well. "I don't do this often, but you are important to my journey. Otherwise, I would not have brought you here to my ship."

"You brought me here?" Immisceo finally said aloud. It was too loud. She could hear her words echo. The fae shook, and their frills preened with delight.

"I did. But please, keep your voice down. Speak with your thoughts and I will hear them." The fae stared with a pleasantly blank expression. Her tail swayed back and forth behind her, but then came to wrap around her leg. "I want to help you. But you must do exactly as I say..."
